In this research, The basic functions of wheel loader automatic transmission TCU including micro-controller system, proportional solenoid valve driver, duty cycle identification system, speed sensor signal conditioning system and data monitoring system, etc were implemented and open-loop shifting control scheme which is based on the experimental data of conventional TCU was designed in order to verify the feasibility of the developing TCU's shifting performance. The experimental result shows comparable shifting characteristics to that of conventional TCU though the test was performed at restricted shifting condition. Hence, we could have confidence for the development of wheel loader automatic transmission TCU. The following plan of this research is to design the control algorithm which improves the shifting quality and verify its performance from the shifting experiment

Recently, most passenger cars that are equipped with automatic transmission prevail in domestic market because of convenient and comfortable driveability though there are some demerits in cost and fuel consumption compared to manual transmission. The major interests of car manufacturers in development of automatic transmission are durability and shift quality. However, a large number of researehes for improving shift quality that are based on dynamic characteristics of shifting mechanism are not adopted in the developing process so far because it is quite difficult to predict the shifting performance from the dynamics simulation. One of the important reasons for the difference between simulation results and experiments arises from the automatic transmission hydraulic system that consists of many valves with high order and shows a lot different dynamics to temperature variation. In this work, Hardware-In-The-Loop simulation system for automatic transmission is developed for improving the accuracy of simulated result by interfacing the real-time simulation model with the real hydraulic system. The real-time simulation for automatic transmission model excluding hydraulic system is executed with TIs TMS320C31 DSP and the additional 16bit micro-controller system is designed for acquiring the simulation data and auxiliary interfacing. We verify the proper operation and correctness of shifting result by comparing the off-line simulation result with that of HILS. We are planned to implement the whole HILS which includes transmission dynamometer driven by electric motor and test the performance of HILS in the near future.

R/C servo motor is a rotary actuator which consists of small size DC-motor, gear train, potentiometer and controller/driver. Because of its low price and control capability as well as small size, it has been widely adopted in the design of model vehicles, intelligent toys as a steering or link actuators. However, specific data for the steady-state and dynamic performance are not available from manufacturers, it is difficult to design control system for lack of information. This research presents the performance test results of R/C servo motor which is integrated in the independent steering mechanism of the 6-wheel model vehicle. A dedicated test equipment developed for the test utilizes ramp signal with extremely low frequency for static characteristics and step, sinusoidal signal for dynamic characteristics of the servo motor. Test results show that less than 1°steady-state control error is observed and its dynamics can be approximated as a critically damped second-order system with 5.7㎐ natural frequency.

Nowadays, many of passenger cars use automatic transmission as power transmission control devices because of its convenience. So many intensive researches for automatic transmission of passenger cars has been performed. In case of construction vehicle, drivers must do many tasks during the construction operation such as working of boom, forward/backward driving, and shifting. So the amount of work done is dependent of driver's dexterity. Due to the this reason, the adoption of automatic transmission has increased in the construction vehicle. In this paper, the automatic transmission shift controller in construction vehicle is developed. The mathematical model of automatic transmission is established and the shifting simulation program is developed. The hardware and software for shift controller is designed and the performance of designed controller is verified by some experiments.

Independent 6WD/6WS mechanism is adopted in a special purpose vehicle in order to enhance the drive capability on a cross-country road as well as the steering performance. As the electric vehicle technologies have been advanced recently, there are some research activities for the dynamic behavior of 4WD/4WS vehicles. However, since 6WD/6WS mechanism can only apply to special vehicles, it doesn't draw much attention in automotive engineering so far. In this work, a test model vehicle with 6 drive motors and 6 steering motors that can be controlled independently was designed to explore the drive and steering characteristics by experiment. This model vehicle is equipped with micro controller for vehicle motion control and two optical mouses which make possible to measure the vehicle yaw rate. From the basic tests for maximum duty acceleration and lane change experiment, we can conclude that the developed model vehicle can be utilized for the investigation of 6WD/6WS system dynamics and the measurement of yaw rate.
