        맥주박 바이오차 처리가 상추(Lactuca sativa L. var. crispa.)의 생육과 품질에 미치는 영향

        The need for organic soil amendment is increasing in the Republic of Korea against the backdrop of soil acidification, pollution, and nutrient losses. The pyrolysis of organic waste biomass produces biochar, which not only increases soil productivity, but also confers environmental benefits by reducing greenhouse gases through carbon sequestration. Brewer’s spent grain (BSG) is rich in useful nutrients and functional substances, but its recycled portion is by far less than the amount generated. Pyrolysis can help to reduce the volume of generated BSG wastes, thus easing it’s recycling. This study evaluated the effects of brewer’s spent grain biochar (BBxxx) pyrolyzed at different temperatures of 300, 500, and 700℃ on the growth and quality characteristics of leaf lettuce including physicochemical properties of the soil. The experiment was conducted at Chungnam National University in Daejeon, Korea. Leaf lettuce was grown in the greenhouse in Wagner pots (1/5000 a) for 35 days. Dried BSG and BBxxx were each added to the soil at rates of 0, 2, and 5% by weight, respectively. Increasing pyrolysis temperatures resulted in increased pH and carbon content of biochar which in turn increased the soil pH and carbon when biochar and soil were admixed. The growth investigation, leaf lettuce with the BB500 5% treatment had the heaviest fresh weight (107.24 ± 3.05 g plant -1 ). The quality investigation, the Anthocyanin content of leaf lettuce with BB500 and BB700 treatments were higher than the control. The results indicate that BB500 performed better than the rest of the biochar and is therefore recommended as an effective soil amendment.
