Performance analysis of holding unit of high speed repulsion actuator

In this paper, holding unit of high speed repulsion actuator is analyzed by FEM. First the ring type permanent magnet (PM) coupling is utilized for the holding unit. Ring type PM is comforted for the holding. Due to negative influence to repulsion actuator performance, an optimal size of PM and other parameters are analyzed. At last, holding unit of high speed repulsion actuator is obtained without negative effect to actuator and enough for holding.

a permanent magnet position keeping unit of a Thomson-coil actuator has been designed in this paper. To get enough holding force, the size, position and magnetization direction of the permanent magnet are optimal designed by using the finite element method. At the same time, the dynamic performance of the Thomson-coil actuator including the influence of the permanent magnet, is also analyzed by using the finite element method. The analysis results show that it is possible to use permanent magnet as the position keeping unit of a Thomson-coil actuator.
