《해남잡저(海南雜著)》〈창명기험(滄溟記險)〉 번역과 해제

본 논문은 지금까지 국내에 소개된 적이 없는 19세기 중국 민간 표해록, 《해남잡저(海南雜著)》를 소개하고 첫 장 <창명기험(滄溟記險)>을 번역함을 목표로 한다. 근대 아시아의 민간 표해록은 중국의 ‘당안(榶案)’이나 조선의 《비변사등록》등으로 대표되는 공적 기록에 비해 신뢰성이 떨어지기는 하나, 표류와 송환의 과정에 대한 생생한 묘사를 통해 문학적 상상력의 원천으로 작용해 왔다. 또한 아시아 각국의 민간풍습에 관한 기록은 물론 지리와 생업, 군사, 행정, 정치 등에 대한 기록도 담고 있어 해양을 통한 문화 교류의 한 축이자 민속학적 사료로도 가치가 매우 높다. 해제에서는 《해남잡저》의 저자 채정란(蔡廷蘭)의 생애, 총 4종의 판본과 다수의 외국어 번역본, 줄거리 등을 간략히 소개하고, 본문 세 편 <창명기험>, <염황기정(炎荒記程)>, <월남기략(越南記略)>의 주요 내용 분석을 시도하였다. 덧붙여 간단히 《해남잡저》의미와 문화적 가치, 그리고 한계를 언급하였다. 뒤이어 세 편 중 가장 문학성이 뛰어난 <창명기험>을 번역하였다. This paper aims to introduce the 19th century Chinese record of drifting, Hainan zazhu(海南雜著) and translate its first chapter, “Changming jixian (Records of hard experiences in the blue sea).” The so-called private records of drifting have been denigrated less reliable than the official records represented by the “government records (榶案)” of China or Records of the Border Defense Council (備邊司謄錄) of Choseon dynasty. Yet recently they are valued as a source of literary imagination through vivid descriptions of drifting and repprocesses. Moreover, they contain records on civilian customs of the land where the drifters arrived as well as geography, business, military, administration, politics, and history. They also work as an evidence of cultural exchanges via the ocean, not to mention very valuable record of folklore and anthropology. First of all, I briefly introduce the life of Cai Tinglan (蔡廷蘭), the author, followed by explanation of four versions of the manuscripts, translations of many foreign languages, and the main plot. On the one hand, this paper focuses on the meaning and cultural value of this record which wrote the personal drifting experience from Taiwan to Vietnam in 10 months, 1853, while on the other hand, arguing that it also represented its limitation. Lastly, I translated the fist chapter, “Changming jixian,” the most literary parts among the three.
