Vol.15 No.2

The purpose of this study was finding the pain inhibitory effect of acupuncture at ST-36. The pain at dentes incisor was evoked by noxious electric stimulation and EMG changes based on time interval were measured. To do this, the opioid antagonist was administered intraperitoneally. Followings are some of the results. 1. The pain inhibitory effect of acupuncture at ST-36 was 93.82%, 87.00%, 75.30%, 69.76% at 10 20, 30 and 40 minutes respectively. All the data were calculated based on 100% at 0 minute. The effect was very significant at 40 minutes. 2. The continuous effect of acupuncture at ST-36 after taking out the needle was 77.46%, 79.66%, 87.60%, 91.50%, 95.14%, 99.48% at 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 minutes respectively. The overall continuous effect was shown its maximum 20 minutes after taking out the needle and reached to the initial value at 60 minutes. 3. The pain inhibitory effect following the naloxone administration and acupuncture application ST-36 was 93.44%, 94.58%, 90.80%, 88.04% at 10, 20, 30 and 40 minutes respectively. All values showed similar tendency to the initial data. 4. The continuous effect of acupuncture at ST-36 after taking out the needle which was preceded by the naloxone administration was 91.26%, 91.90%, 92.06%, 93.66%, 94.12%, 93.50% at 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 minutes respectively. This trend was not a significant fluctuation. It Was concluded that effect of acupuncture at ST-36 was shown in conjunction with secretion of analgesic substance. Therefore it is implied that the acupuncture application will play a major role in treating many diseases with more revelation of scientific acupuncture mechanism. Further studies of acupuncture manipulation are needed in the future based on our study.

Vol.24 No.1

Objectives In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic effects of Gami-Bojungikgitang and Gami-Jwagwieum for bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis in mice. Methods Extracted lyophilization, Gami-Bojungikgitang (96g) and Gami-Jwagwieum (118g) boiled, filtered, depressed, concentrated, and are obtained. They were divided into five groups: normal, group IA; Animal group treated with bleomycin observed on the 21th day, group IB; Animal group treated with bleomycin observed on the 42th day, group IIA; Animal group treated with bleomycin and Gami-Bojungikgitang. Gami-Jwagwieum observed on the 21th day, group IIB; Animal group treated with bleomycin and Gami-Bojungikgitang/Gami-Jwagwieum observed on the 42th day. Mice are used on the 42th day and as a result, bronchoalveolar lavages fluid is obtained. Counting total number of cells, different ratio of macrophage, lymphocyte, and neutrophil are established. Results In animal group treated with bleomycin and Gami-Bojungikgitang, total cell count decreased by 50% in 3 weeks compared to animal group with non-administrated Gami-Bojungikgitang. However, total cell count in 6 weeks increased compared to 3 weeks although total cell count still decreased compared to animal group with non-administrated Gami-Bojungikgitang. In the view of differential cell counts in bronchoalveolar lavages fluid in treatment group on 3 and 6 weeks, neutrophile was a few and lymphocyte decreased. In animal group treated with bleomycin and Gami-Jwagwieum, total cell count decreased by 50% in 3 and 6 weeks compared to animal group with non-administrated Gami-Jwagwieum. In the view of differential cell counts in bronchoalveolar lavages fluid in treatment group on 3 and 6 weeks, lymphocyte also decreased. Conclusions Gami-Bojungikgitang and especially Gami-Jwagwieum for bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis in mice were effective in total cell count and differential cell count.

        김미기,정지호,신권성,이동엽,이해자,박은정,Kim, Mi-Ki,Jung, Ji-Ho,Shin, Kwon-Sung,Lee, John Dong-Yeop,Lee, Hai-Ja,Park, Eun-Jung 대한한방소아과학회 2010 대한한방소아과학회지 Vol.24 No.2

Objectives The purpose of this study is to get the basic information about the actual amount of consumption of the Health supplements and Herbal Medicines. Also, we investigated the consumption differences according to the regions. Methods 500 questionnaires were handed out to parents of elementary students in O O, Gyeonggi-do province, and 331 questionnaires were collected and evaluated for this study. Results Among the 331 students, 58.4% were female, and 41.6% were male. The percentages of the subjects consuming health supplements and herbal medicines were 67.4% and 59.2% respectively. The maximum period of taking the health supplements were from 1 month to 6 month (49.5%), and the maximum period of taking the herbal medicine was within one month (55.6%). The total cost of the health supplements was less than 100,000won (43.7%), which was the most common while herbal medicine cost was between 100,000won and 200,000won (40.6%). The most common age of consuming the health supplements and herbal medicine for the first time was six to ten years old (47.3%); the case of herbal medicine was one to six years old (64.0%). Most of people purchased health supplements from pharmacy (48.0%), and purchased the herbal medicine from the oriental medical clinic (61.8%). Among those people who purchased health supplements, they bought nutritional supplements (82.8%), red ginseng or ginseng products (43.4%), plum extract products (10.9%), and chlorella products (6.8%). The reason for consuming health supplements was to be healthier even though there is no ongoing illness (47.1%), which was the most common reason. The reason for consuming herbal medicine was to cure weakness (39.3%). For the responses about effectiveness after taking medications, people thought herbal medicine seemed to be more effective compare to health supplements (72.3%, 63% respectively). Only 1.4% of the subjects consuming the health supplements showed adverse effects while herbal medicine showed 4.6%. The most common adverse effects were 'general reaction' caused by the health supplements and dermatologic problems caused by the herbal medications. Conclusions Among 331 subjects, the percentage of consuming the health supplements (67.4%) was higher than the Herbal Medicine (59.2%). The total consuming cost of the herbal medications was higher than general health supplements. Also, the maximum period of consuming the health supplements was longer than herbal medications. Therefore, it is shown that herbal medications have no price competitiveness compare to health supplements. The age of using the herbal medicine for the first time was younger than the health supplements. Even though many people can purchase both health supplements and herbal medication from pharmacies and local oriental medical clinic, it is also shown that some people thought that the health supplements should be purchased from oriental medical hospital (13.9%). The most commonly taken forms of the health supplement was nutrition-supplying products, and the second common health supplements were ginseng and red ginseng. The health supplements were commonly consumed for preventing illness and for maintaining healthy life rather than for cure diseases. On the other hand, the herbal medicine was more commonly consumed to be taller or to treat diseases. More than half of the entire people replied as 'satisfied' for their purchase. Some adverse effects and general reaction were common with the subjects consuming health supplements while dermatological adverse reaction was common with the subjects consuming herbal medications.

at Jeonju Wonkwang University Oriental Medicine hospital postpartum care center. Results The majority of women(79.2%) had planned breast-feeding. However, only 32.1% of women currently have fed breast-feeding. 58% of mothers who did partial breast-feeding and breast-feeding currently have planned to breast-feed more than 7 months. The main reason of bottle-fed is concern of insufficient amount of breast milk(72.2%). Also the main reason of breast-feeding is good for baby's health(90%). The average score on the test of the understanding about the methods and advantages of breast-feeding was $13.98{\pm}1.92$ out of total 18.49.1% of women thought that taking herbal medicine would affect baby during breast-feeding. Also 71.7% of women thought that herbal treatments (acupuncture, herbal medicine) would be helpful when the amount of breast milk is insufficient. Conclusions This survey has showed that in spite of full breast-feeding plan, the percentage of actual breast-feeding rate is low. Timely education is needed to increase breast-feeding rate. It is worth to consider herbal treatment to increase breast milk amount. In addition to that it is necessary to create a hospital environment in which mothers can easily begin breast-feeding as soon as possible after delivery. Moreover, beyond the medical field, political and social supports for breast-feeding are needed.
