A micro-mechanics based statistical material model for the heterogeneous microstructure of cast aluminum alloy is presented. The experimentally measured stress-strain behavior is compared with the model prediction during tensile deformation. The model has been implemented into finite element software, and thus the effect of distributions of void size and volume fraction on the deformation behavior can be investigated. As shown in the results, the non-uniform microstructural evolution is sufficient to lead to the development of different levels of deformation and failure.
