In the automotive industry, ultra-high strength steel is applied to satisfy light weight and high strength. Subframe is located at the bottom of the vehicle to support the arm and at the same time reinforce the rigidity of the vehicle body. However, the subframe is generally manufactured by press forming, and the application of ultra-high strength steel is limited due to springback and formability. Roll forming method is one of the methods to overcome the formability and springback of ultra-high strength steel, and is effective for productivity and cost. In this study, the front subframe is designed with ultra-high strength steel applied to the No.1 member in charge of crash performance. Roll forming was applied to overcome the formability of ultra-high-strength steel, and the cross-section of the No. 1 member was applied with a B-type closed cross-section similar to that of a bumper beam to increase the impact performance. As a result of the design, the weight was reduced by 1.02kg, and the crash performance and durability were confirmed compared to the target model.
