For mass production of printed electronics in roll-to-roll fashion, precision tension control is important to reduce register errors. Register error should be minimized within several to tens of microns for many electronic devices to be manufactured through printing technology. In order to achieve this goal, tension disturbance must be attenuated before printing process within a certain range. In this paper, a certain tension range which allows maintaining register error within 10 micron was defined with specific operating conditions. A LQG controller was proposed instead of the conventional PI controller for precision tension control using a multivariable feedback. A guideline to determine design parameters for calculating LQ gain was proposed. The proposed LQG controller was compared to both PI controller and LQ regulator with white noise by numerical simulations. Results showed that the proposed LQG controller was effective for attenuating tension disturbance with white noise.

In the continuous system, the dancer has been conducted attenuating tension disturbance or sensing tension variation using its position change. Generally, the conventional dancer system directly contacts with web surface. But new aerodynamic dancer is introduced which floats web with air cushion using air pressure. The aerodynamic dancer could be applied to non-contact tension control especially in manufacturing single or multi-layer printed electronics; it is important to protect printed pattern from crumbling down and this could be achieved by proposed aerodynamic dancer. In this paper, an aerodynamic dancer model which uses rotating arm is derived. Its open loop performance is compared with traditional dancer in time domain and stability is discriminated by Root-locus method.

As financial market grows larger, demands for more currency handling such as the bill counting and bill binding process is increasing. Despite of time consuming, the work information has been stamped on the bunch of bill manually to guarantee exactness of the process and to prevent losting money in the process. To increase efficiency and security, stamping of the work information should be changed into the automatic printing process. And the binding process should be done with printing process simultaneously. In this study, the working logic and the mechanism of the commercial bill binder were analyzed using time schedule of system which is acquired using DAQ board and LabVIEW™. For development the Automatic Printing Binder, the band discarding logic and user identification logic is suggested and these are intergrated using real-time scheduling. In addition, the main problem which makes binding process inefficient is analyzed. Results could be applied for the developement of the APB.

Converting technology has developed to print information for the decades. Recently, this technology (like gravure, gravure-offset) is rising as an alternative way for mass production of printed electronics such as RFID, solar cell. For the width of printing line is under 10 microns, registration error should be minimized less than several microns. Tension disturbance is main cause of registration error and this should be minimized before the substrate is transported into printing zone. With PI controller, it is possible to suppress the disturbance within 2% of operating tension. But register error appears more than 10 micron using PIcontroller considering noise. So LQG controller is needed as an alternative control method. In this paper, the comparision of PI and LQG controller in the converting machine including measured noise and tension disturbance is presented. It is shown that the LQG controller is more suitable for precision tension control in printed electronics.

Compressed air has been used widely for the actual life as well as the industrial purpose. The majority of air compressor is a reciprocating type in spite of its demerits. In this paper, it was reported about a simulation program for performance of reciprocating air compressor and the results of simulation by influenced parameters for volumetric efficiency. Compression ratio, flow coefficient and heat loss were selected as the influenced parameters.
