        English L2 Spelling Errors Phonologically Absent in L1 but Present in L2

        This study examined English L2 spellings among Korean L1 learners of English. Two groups of 3rdgraders, Korean L1 English learners (N=36) and native English speakers (N=30), performed a pseudoword spelling task ,in which they listened to an audio recording of pseudowords and dictated what they heard. The task material targeting phonological difference consists of two types of pseudowords: the consonants that exist in both English and in Korean (congruent type) and the consonants that do not exist in Korean but exist English (incongruent type).Data were tested with an experiment with a 2x2 factorial design with “group” and “word type” as independent variables. The results support the prediction that Korean L1 learners of English would have difficulty in spelling pseudowords containing phonemes which do not exist in Korean but are present in English phonology. Pedagogical implications regarding English L2 spellings are addressed.

        Subject-Verb Agreement

        This paper investigates variations of subject-verb agreement of the collective nouns majority and minority, representing semantically quite different amounts whereas grammatically they are in singular form. The Corpus data of Contemporary American English (COCA) were used. It was found that overall the collective nouns, both majority and minority, take a plural verb rather than a singular verb. However, majority and minority take slightly different number verb agreements: minority tends to agree with singular verbs (39%) compared to majority (19%). The presence of local nouns increased the chance of plural verb agreement in both majority and minority, whereas the non-presence of local nouns increases the chance of singular verb agreement in both majority and minority. Thus, the semantic meaning of minority, relatively a small amount, compared to majority (most), plays a role in choosing a verb even though majority and minority are grammatically singular forms of collective nouns.

        대학교육 핵심역량과 전공핵심역량: 영어학 전공을 중심으로

        The study has two purposes; first, it examines core competences for English major within the college and university core competences, and second, it discusses how the core competences for English major were applied to English major curriculum. Participants of the study were five professors in English department and 64 graduates and the workers who are related to English major. Five professors were asked to write necessary core competences for the students majoring English and 64 graduates and the workers to rate the degree of importance and necessity for each course (Important Performance Analysis-IPA). The results show that the main core competences which should be raised for the students majoring English were ‘English Communication Ability’, ‘Understanding of English Culture’, and ‘The Qualifications for Teaching English’. IPA indicated that the core competence for ‘Understanding of English Culture’ was less important and necessary than the other two competences. It is also suggested that core competences for both ‘English Communication Ability’ and ‘Qualifications for Teaching English’ are the main core competences for the students majoring English. Further discussions on how those core competences are applied to English curriculum are addressed.

        텍스트 기반 이미지 생성 (text-to-image) 모델의 발전에 따라 프롬프트 (prompt) 엔지니어링이라는 새로운 분야가 대두되었다. 이는 모델 결과물의 품질이 프롬프트를 얼마나 잘 사용했는지에 의해 결정되기 때문에 사용자가 원하는 고품질의 이미지를 생성할 수 있는 구체적이고 명확한 프롬프트를 작성하는 것의 중요성으로부터 비롯되었다. 이에 따라 프롬프트 분석 연구가 진행되어 왔으며, 이 과정의 일환으로 생성된 이미지에서 프롬프트를 예측하는 방법도 제안되었다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 이미지로부터 프롬프트를 예측 (image-to-prompt)하는 작업을 수행하는 앙상블 모델을 제안한다. 실험 결과로 이미지 캡션을 생성하는 단일 모델보다 평균 0.1381 을 향상시키며 제안된 모델의 성능을 검증했다.
