The performance of a chevron type plate heat exchanger was analysed by using Ansys v13.0. The heat transfer, pressure drop and flow patten of plate heat exchanger were investigated with chevron pitch and mass flow ratio, and its flow characteristics was analyzed. As a result, the reduction of the pitch showed the increased heat transfer performance and high pressure drop simultaneously. When the chevron pitch ratio was less than 100%(p/h ratio=5.2), the fluid flowed through the passage between chevron, thus the pressure drop increased significantly.

When engine exhaust gas is used to the absorption chiller-heater, energy efficiency can be increased up to 75~90% and the coefficient of absorption chiller-heater performance can be improved significantly. To investigate performance of the high-temperature generator using exhaust gas in the absorption chiller-heater, Lab. scale high-temperature generator using exhaust gas was designed and test setup was installed. The performance of the high-temperature generator using exhaust gas in the absorption chiller-heater with operating conditions was investigated with inlet condition of absorption liquid. At absorption liquid mass flow rate ratio of 100%, as the mass flow rate ratio of absorption liquid was increased from 80% to 120%, heat capacity of high-temperature generator for inlet concentration of 56%, 55%, 54%, 53% increased by 3.6%, 4.47%, 5.6%, 5.7%, respectively.

The performance of a plate heat exchanger for using liquid solution in the absorption chiller-heater was analyzed. The model was developed by using the various performance prediction correlations. The performance characteristics of the plate heat exchanger with the mass flow rate ratio was verified by using experimental data. To investigate performance of plate heat exchanger with geometry variables, the chevron angle, corrugated wave length, and corrugation depth were changed. As a result, the capacity of Kim and Martin correlation models was similar with the experimental data, and the capacity difference was less than 2%. Besides, the pressure drop of Marin correlation model showed a similar variation with experimental data, and the difference of pressure drop was less than 1.5 ㎪.
