In this paper, the fault current limiting characteristics of the flux-lock type SFCL (superconducting fault current limiter) using magnetic application circuit were analyzed. The flux-lock type SFCL has the structure to install the magnetic application circuit, which can increase the resistance of HTSC ($high-T_C$ superconducting element comprising) the SFCL. To analyze the fault current limiting effect of the flux-lock type SFCL through the magnetic flux application circuit, the flux-lock type SFCL either with the magnetic flux circuit or without the magnetic flux circuit was constructed and the fault current limiting characteristics of the SFCL were compared each other through the short-circuit tests.

An SFCL(Superconducting Fault Current Limiter), which has zero impedance characteristic, doesnt have power loss and limits fault current quickly, therefore it plays a rule as a protective equipment. And there are many types of SFCLs. In this paper, we analyzed operating characteristics of a double quench SFCL with a transformer. When a fault current flows on this SFCL, a HTSC(High Temperature Superconducting) element on primary of the transformer is operated and then a HTSC element on secondary of the transformer is operated. We tested this SFCL according to turn ratio and compared a double quench SFCL with series resistance for the SFCL with a transformer. After experiments, we could confirm fault current limiting characteristics of the SFCL with a transformer according to turn ratio. Also operating characteristics and power burden of HTSC element according to application for series resistance and for transformer were verified.

A SFCL(Superconducting Fault Current Limiter) which has zero impedance characteristic does not have power loss and limits fault current quickly, therefore it plays a rule as a protective equipment. In this paper, we analyzed fault current limiting characteristics and power burden of a flux-lock type SFCL. When fault current flows on this SFCL, the circuit making external magnetic field of this SFCL have an effect on high-T<SUB>c</SUB> superconducting element(HTSC) and resistance of the HTSC is changed. So, in this paper, we performed the short circuit tests to simulate many cases that the external magnetic field affects HTSC and conducted comparison analysis. After the experiment using a series resistance(R) connected to third winding circuit and a parallel resistance(R<SUB>p</SUB>) connected to HTSC, we could predict the fault current limiting characteristics and power burden of the SFCL according to effect of external magnetic field.

SFCL(superconducting Fault Current Limiter) which had zero impedance characteristic does not have power loss and limits quickly fault current. So it plays a rule as a protective equipment. And there are many type of SFCL. In this paper, we analyzed a SFCL with twice Quench so as to improve existing SFCL that operates regardless of scale of fault current. This SFCL with twice quench composed of extra series resistance(RS) and could limit once or twice dependent on scale of fault current. We analyzed operating characteristics and power burden of SFCL and its components according to fault position and series resistance(RS). Through the analysis, we could confirm that SFCL with RS operated at lower current, limited the fault current faster. And components’s power burden could be analyzed.
