Vol.13 No.1
In the previous report the isolation of 3`,4`,7-trihydroxyflavone and α-spinasteryl glucoside from the stem bark of A. julibrissin were presented (the 30th annual meeting of the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea, October, 1981). In the course of cotinuous work on the plant, from the hydrolysate of the strong uterotonic active saponin fraction 3β, 16β, 21β-tri-hydroxyolean 12-en-28-oic acid 28:21-lactone (acatic acid lactone), mp 250-51˚ [α]^20_D +10˚, was isolated. It is most probably assumed that the lactone is an artefact transformed during acid hydrolysis of the saponins.

From the roots of Echinosophora koreensis (Leguminosae) a new caffeic acid ester, 1-eico-sanoyl cafferate, mp 109∼110˚ was isolated together with hexacosanol, mp 75∼76˚.
Vol.18 No.1
The structure of the minor saponin, phytolaccoside D₂ isolated from the roots of Phytolacca americana(Phytolaccaceae) has been elucidated as 3-0-[β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-β-D-xylopyranosyl] phytolaccagenic acid by means of chemical and spectral analyses. Phytolaccoside D₂ was identical with that of prosapogenin II obtained from the partial hydrolysate of phytolaccoside F in every respect which confirmed the assigned structure.

Vol.18 No.1
Two new monodesmosidic saponins(Phytolaccosides F and D₂) have been isolated from the roots of P. americana (Phytolaccaceae). On the basis of chemical and spectral data, the structure of phytolaccoside F has been eluci dated to be 3-0-[α-L-rhamnophyranosyl(1→2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-β-D-xylopyranosyl] phytolaccagenic acid.
Vol.18 No.1
From the rhizomes of Rodgersia podophylla (Saxifragaceae) a rare triterpene acid, β-peltoboykinolic acid, mp 249∼250˚, was isolated and characterized by spectral data. A mixture of β-sitosterol and campesterol was also identified by GC/MS analysis. This is the first report of the isolation of β-peltoboykinolic acid from the genus Rodgersia.
SUPPRESSION OF MOUSE LYMPHOCYTE PROLIFERATION IN VITRO BY NATURALLY-OCCURRING BIFLVONOIDS
Vol.6 No.-
In a continuing effort to investigate biological activitres of flavonoids, nine biflavonoids, isolated from three plant sources were evaluated for their suppressive effects on mouse lymphocyte proliferation. The biflavonoids tested were amentoflavone, bilobetin, ginkgetin, isoginkgetin, sciadopitvsin, ochnaflavone, 4¹-O-methylochnaflavone, cyptomerin B and isocryptomerin At 10uM, seeral biflavonoids such as ginkgetin, isoginkgetin, ochnaflavone, cryptomerin B and isocryptomerin showed the suppressive activity against lymphocyte proliferation induced by Con A or LPS. Apigenin (flavone) and quercetin (flavonol) were suppressive against Con A-inducted lymphocyte proliferation, but not against LPS induced lymphocyte proliferation at the same concentration range. Biflavonoids were found to be irreversible inhibitors of lymphocyte proliferation. This is the first report describing the suppressive effects of naturally-occurring biflavonoids against lymphocyte proliferation
