Herein, TiO2 based photocatalysts were synthesized by either one-step or two-step modified sol-gel process. Vanadium was used as a dopant to synthesize a series of V doped TiO2 with desirable properties for decolorization of organic contaminants in the presence of natural solar irradiation. The physiochemical properties of the photocatalysts were examined by XRD, N2 physisorption studies, XPS, DT-TGA, SEM-EDAX, XRF, UV-visible DRS and HRTEM. XRD results revealed that through varying the reaction conditions and V-to-Ti ratios, V-TiO2 crystals with different phase structure, morphology and particle size can be attained after calcinations.

Supporting TiO<sub>2</sub> on different materials is a potential strategy to improve the photochemical properties of the resulting composites. Herein, kaolinite (K) and zirconia were used as a support to synthesize a series of titania based photocatalysts with desirable properties for decolorization of organic contaminants. The physiochemical properties of the photocatalysts were examined by XRD, N<sub>2</sub> physisorption studies, FTIR, TGA, SEM-EDAX, XRF, UV-visible DRS and HRTEM. XRD results revealed that through varying pH of the reaction, different TiO<sub>2</sub> crystals suitable for photocatalysis can be attained in the sintered samples.
