Bully the New Guy: CEO Legitimacy and Firm Victimization
김난희(Nanhee Kim),이경묵(Kyungmook Lee) 한국인사조직학회 2020 한국인사ㆍ조직학회 발표논문집 Vol.2020 No.1
Integrating upper echelons perspective and victimization theorizing into institutional theory, this paper investigates the mechanism by which CEO legitimacy causes firm victimization. Drawing on insights from the literature on liability of newness, we suggest that firms with newly inaugurated CEOs may have to pay the illegitimacy penalty in the form of increased competitive attack. An empirical test with a unique dataset of interfirm litigation for top 500 companies in the US confirms that a firm is likely to elicit more rivalry attacks when the tenure of its CEO is shorter. It is also demonstrated that the firm go through less competitive attacks either when the CEO of the firm was promoted internally or when the CEO has higher promotion focus. Our finding highlights the value of looking to the legitimacy aspects of competitive dynamics by illuminating how firms face peer pressure for legitimation and how they can obtain social acceptance.

The works of Natsume Soseki are unique in that they utilize “dreams” as an important literary method and, therefore, feature a multitude of dreams. In keeping with this,『Ten Nights of Dreamsconsists of ten different forms of dreams. This paper investigates 『Ten Nights of Dreams』 in connection with the deep landscape the author has buried deep in his unconscious mind. It can be seen that projected within is the theory of the flow of consciousness, intuition, and the continuation of time, a theory that was formulated by William James and Henri Bergson. The research methodology that this dissertation adopts is the theory of the unconscious of shadow, anima, and archetype, which are the main concepts of Jungian psychology. This paper looks into the deep landscape rooted in his mind that Soseki expresses by making use of dreams and dividing it into five different motifs: (1) a being bound in time (1) Eros and Thanatos (3) distrust of paternity (4) art and acts of art, and (5) the “mismatch” of men and women. In order to reveal his own deep unconscious mind, Soseki tried a unique ecriture experiment, known as a “dream method.” The dream is what portrays one’s unconsciousness. The writer thinks that the shadow sitting deep in the mind can be expressed more consciously than an actual dreams by taking the form of, and in a manner of speaking, masquerading as a dream. Soseki is an author who has discovered that literature, dreams, and life are alike. As such, it can be concluded that he straightforwardly reveals his own existence by means of a dream.

This paper looked at the sketches that appeared in modern Japanese literature. A sketch is a method of Western art. It is an observation of nature from outdoors. I note that the method of sketching has influenced Japanese writers. This paper revolved around Roka`s "Nature and life" and Toson`s "sketch of Chikuma River". "Nature and life" is characterized by a description of nature. So it had a great nfluence on the young generation of the Meiji Era. He described as a technique of Impressionism, which focuses on light and color. Toson`s work reveals realism and empirical spirit. He discribed people who live in a poor environment. Humans can survive by obeying nature, sometimes. Toson described it dynamically as if it were a painting by Millet. The method of sketch is the spirit of positivism of the Meiji Era.

A phytoene synthase gene, crtB, was isolated from Kocuria gwangalliensis. The crtB with 1,092 bp full-length has a coding sequence of 948 bp and encodes a 316-amino-acids protein. The deduced amino acid sequence showed a 70.9% identity with a putative phytoene synthase from K. rhizophila. An expression plasmid, pCcrtB, containing the crtB gene was constructed, and E. coli cells containing this plasmid produced the recombinant protein of approximately 34kDa , corresponding to the molecular mass of phytoene synthase. Biosynthesis of lycopene was confirmed when the plasmid pCcrtB was co-transformed into E. coli containing pRScrtEI carrying the crtE and crtI genes encoding lycopene biosynthetic pathway enzymes. The results obtained from this study will provide a base of knowledge about the phytoene synthase of K. gwangalliensis and can be applied to the production of carotenoids in a non-carotenoidproducing host.

Objective: This study was performed to detect indicator bacteria in drinking spring water samples in Gwangju City and to identify their genus using the VITEK-II system. Methods: The subjects were ten drinking spring water sites in Gwangju. Samples of spring water were taken every month from September 2019 to August 2020. We analyzed for the indicator bacteria Yersinia and microorganisms isolated from the spring water. Result: According to the research results on indicator bacteria, general bacteria in st1-st7 with sterilization facilities in the spring and summer were investigated in the range of 0-2 CFU/mL and 0-12 CFU/mL. In st9, where a sterilization facility was not installed, the most general bacteria were detected (160 CFU/mL). Total coliform and fecal coliform showed unsatisfied rates of 16.7 and 11.1% in spring and 14.7 and 11.8% in summer, respectively. The unsatisfied rates of total coliform for the designated and non-designated spring water facilities were 3.8 and 47.1%, respectively, and for the fecal coliform group they were 2.5 and 35.3%. The difference was confirmed according to the presence of a sterilization facility. Yersinia spp. was not detected in all drinking spring water. Forty-one strains in 25 species were isolated from ten sites. The results classified as major dominant species are Pseudomonas spp. 14.6%, Pantoea spp. 9.8%, Serratia spp. 9.8%, Acinetobacter spp. 9.8%, Citrobacter spp. 7.3%, Bordetella spp. 7.3%, Delftia spp. 4.9%, and Enterobacter spp. 4.9%. Conclusions: Based on the result that various species derived from fecal pollution and artificial pollutants were detected in the non-specified public spring water facilities that many people use, the facilities need institutional complements such as continuous management or complete shutdowns.
