Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine how strategic human resource management practices are enacted in chaebol hotels, and also to evaluate the relationship between the SHRM practices and organizational effectiveness as experienced by employees, regarding the concept of organizational justice. Design/methodology/approach: The questionnaire survey for employees served to test hypotheses which examine the relationship between SHRM and the influence of these HR practices on organizational effectiveness, using multi-regression analysis. This research encompasses a total of 450 responses collected from individuals employed at chaebol hotels in Seoul and Busan. Findings: This study revealed that chaebol hotels hired competent employees who had language capabilities, used appearance as a selection criterion, and ensured that sophisticated selection methods were well established through the HR systems of numerous subsidiary companies. Employees consider the perceived injustices in the recruitment and selection process and the perceived unfairness in promotions. Research limitations/implications: All findings support the concept that the best practice, driven by collectivism, employment legislation, trade unions, and financial considerations, plays a significant role in managing HRM in chaebol hotels. This study contributes a new SHRM framework by integrating a combination of best fit, based on quality enhancement strategy, and best practices tailored to the specific organization. Originality/value: This study contributed to explore the SHRM framework for the Chaebol hotel sector with regard to providing both high quality of service and also a high price policy. This study provides guidelines for efficient SHRM to managers and practitioners who operate deluxe hotels and offers an essential material to gain a better understanding of a new SHRM framework in service organization.

      • A Study on a Comparison of Diagnostic Domain between SNOMED CT and Korea Standard Terminology of Medicine

Mijung Kim 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.9 No.11

Applying to standard clinical terminologies is essential for understanding the precise meanings of the clinical terminology used in EMR systems and sharing clinical data among health providers. In Korea, Korean standard terminology of medicine was first introduced as national standard vocabulary for EMR systems in 2014. However, there is little usage yet. So we studied on a comparison of diagnosis domain between Korean standard terminology of medicine and SNOMED CT adapted in many countries. Because it is the most important in medical statistics and clinical studies. Qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis and mapping ability were studied through literature review and structure analysis as methods. As a result, Korean standard terminology of medicine was satisfied in the concept orientation, concept permanence, non- semantic concept identifier and mapping to standards terminologies, support for multiple level. But it was not in the multi-hierarchy, language independence, formal definition and so on. And some problems was raveled in the structural aspect and mapping. This paper will help to utilize and improve KOSTOM.

        Kim, No H.,Lee, Yoon J.,Suh, Chang Y.,Lee, Gi B.,Yang, Kyu J.,Kim, Tae-Gyu,Gi, Yu-Mi,Kwon, Mijung,Ha, In-Hyuk Korean AcupunctureMoxibustion Medicine Society 2018 대한침구의학회지 Vol.35 No.2

Background: We conducted a cross-sectional study to analyze the pain characteristics and satisfaction scores in traffic accident (TA) patients seeking Korean medicine treatment. Methods: A survey was conducted in 845 outpatients who visited 10 Korean medicine institutions due to TA-associated symptoms from February 25th, 2016 to March 9th, 2016. The questionnaire included information about patient sociodemographic characteristics, accident circumstance details, pain levels, treatment methods, satisfaction and pre-existing musculoskeletal disorders. All statistical analyses were performed using STATA 14.0. Results: A total 754 of the 845 respondents had experienced acute pain of onset within 1-2 days. Pain in the neck or low back was most common, and low back pain (LBP) was more prevalent in pedestrian-vehicle accident cases. Patients showed highest satisfaction with pharmacopuncture treatment, followed by acupuncture and Chuna manual therapy. Although treatments were not completed at the time of the survey, the majority of patients were satisfied with the Korean medicine treatments they received and indicated their intent to reuse this treatment in the future. The degree of pain reduction after treatment was a factor that influenced patient satisfaction with and intention to reuse Korean medicine. Conclusion: This study determined the characteristics and status of TA patients using Korean medicine and suggests the need for further more inclusive studies.

      • Age-related alterations in mesenchymal stem cells related to shift in differentiation from osteogenic to adipogenic potential: Implication to age-associated bone diseases and defects

        Kim, MiJung,Kim, ChanWha,Choi, Yu Suk,Kim, MinHwan,Park, ChanJeoung,Suh, Yousin Elsevier 2012 Mechanisms of ageing and development Vol.133 No.5

<P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► MSC aging is a major obstacle limiting the success of cell therapy interventions. ► MSC aging shifts the balance in favor of adipocyte differentiation than osteoblast. ► How aging makes preferential shift from osteogenic to adipogenic differentiation. ► Information from this report can be used to develop future solutions to MSC aging.</P> <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have attracted considerable attention in the fields of cell and gene therapy due to their intrinsic ability to differentiate into multiple lineages. The various therapeutic applications involving MSC require initial expansion and/or differentiation <I>in vitro</I> prior to clinical use. However, serial passages of MSC in culture lead to decreased differentiation potential and stem cell characteristics, eventually inducing cellular aging which will limit the success of cell-based therapeutic interventions. Here we review the age-related changes that occur in MSC with a special focus on the shift of differentiation potential from osteogenic to adipogenic lineage during the MSC aging processes and how aging causes this preferential shift by oxidative stress and/or energy metabolism defect. Oxidative stress-related signals and some microRNAs affect the differentiation potential shift of MSC by directly targeting key regulatory factors such as Runx-2 or PPAR-γ, and energy metabolism pathway is involved as well. All information described here including transcription factors, microRNAs and FoxOs could be used towards development of treatment regimens for age-related bone diseases and related defects based on mutually exclusive lineage fate determination of MSC.</P>

Background Breast Parenchymal Signal During Menstrual Cycle on Diffusion-Weighted MRI: A Prospective Study in Healthy Premenopausal Women

        Kim Yeon Soo,Yun Bo La,Chu A Jung,Lee Su Hyun,Shin Hee Jung,Kim Sun Mi,Jang Mijung,Shin Sung Ui,Moon Woo Kyung 대한영상의학회 2024 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.25 No.6

Objective: To prospectively investigate the influence of the menstrual cycle on the background parenchymal signal (BPS) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of the breast on diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) in healthy premenopausal women. Materials and Methods: Seven healthy premenopausal women (median age, 37 years; range, 33–49 years) with regular menstrual cycles participated in this study. DW-MRI was performed during each of the four phases of the menstrual cycle (four examinations in total). Three radiologists independently assessed the BPS visual grade on images with b-values of 800 sec/mm2 (b800), 1200 sec/mm2 (b1200), and a synthetic 1500 sec/mm2 (sb1500). Additionally, one radiologist conducted a quantitative analysis to measure the BPS volume (%) and ADC values of the BPS (ADCBPS) and fibroglandular tissue (ADCFGT). Changes in the visual grade, BPS volume (%), ADCBPS, and ADCFGT during the menstrual cycle were descriptively analyzed. Results: The visual grade of BPS in seven women varied from mild to marked on b800 and from minimal to moderate on b1200 and sb1500. As the b-value increased, the visual grade of BPS decreased. On b800 and sb1500, two of the seven volunteers showed the highest visual grade in the early follicular phase (EFP). On b1200, three of the seven volunteers showed the highest visual grades in EFP. The BPS volume (%) on b800 and b1200 showed the highest value in three of the six volunteers with dense breasts in EFP. Three of the seven volunteers showed the lowest ADCBPS in the EFP. Four of the seven volunteers showed the highest ADCBPS in the early luteal phase (ELP) and the lowest ADCFGT in the late follicular phase (LFP). Conclusion: Most volunteers did not exhibit specific BPS patterns during their menstrual cycles. However, the highest BPS and lowest ADCBPS were more frequently observed in EFP than in the other menstrual cycle phases, whereas the highest ADCBPS was more common in ELP. The lowest ADCFGT was more frequent in LFP.

Comparison of viability and antioxidant capacity between canine adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells and heme oxygenase-1-overexpressed cells after freeze-thawing

        KIM, Mijung,KIM, Yongsun,LEE, Seunghoon,KUK, Minyoung,KIM, Ah Young,KIM, Wanhee,KWEON, Oh-Kyeong The Japanese Society of Veterinary Science 2016 The Journal of veterinary medical science Vol.78 No.4

<P>Allogenic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (Ad-MSCs) are an alternative source for cytotherapy owing to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Frozen-thawed allogenic Ad-MSCs can be used instantly for this purpose. However, the viability and function of frozen-thawed Ad-MSCs have not been clearly evaluated. The purpose of this study was to compare the viability and function of Ad-MSCs and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)-overexpressed Ad-MSCs <I>in vitro</I> after freeze-thawing. The viability, proliferation, antioxidant capacity and mRNA gene expression of growth factors were evaluated. Frozen-thawed cells showed significantly lower viability than fresh cells (77% for Ad-MSCs and 71% for HO-1 Ad-MSCs, <I>P</I><0.01). However, the proliferation rate of frozen-thawed Ad-MSCs increased and did not differ from that of fresh Ad-MSCs after 3 days of culture. In contrast, the proliferation rate of HO-1-overexpressed Ad-MSCs was lower than that of Ad-MSCs. The mRNA expression levels of <I>TGF-β</I>, <I>HGF</I> and <I>VEGF</I> did not differ between fresh and frozen-thawed Ad-MSCs, but <I>COX-2</I> and <I>IL-6</I> had significantly higher mRNA expression in frozen cells than fresh cells (<I>P</I><0.05). Fresh Ad-MSCs exhibited higher <I>HO-1</I> mRNA expression than frozen-thawed Ad-MSCs, and fresh HO-1-overexpressed Ad-MSCs exhibited higher than fresh Ad-MSCs (<I>P</I><0.05). However, there was no significant difference between fresh and frozen HO-1-overexpressed Ad-MSCs. The antioxidant capacity of HO-1-overexpressed Ad-MSCs was significantly higher than that of Ad-MSCs. Cryopreservation of Ad-MSCs negatively affects viability and antioxidant capacity, and HO-1-overexpressed Ad-MSCs might be useful to maximize the effect of Ad-MSCs for cytotherapy.</P>

Abrogation of the Circadian Nuclear Receptor REV-ERBα Exacerbates 6-Hydroxydopamine-Induced Dopaminergic Neurodegeneration

        Kim, Jeongah,Jang, Sangwon,Choi, Mijung,Chung, Sooyoung,Choe, Youngshik,Choe, Han Kyoung,Son, Gi Hoon,Rhee, Kunsoo,Kim, Kyungjin Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology 2018 Molecules and cells Vol.41 No.8

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive degeneration of dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons, particularly in the substantia nigra (SN). Although circadian dysfunction has been suggested as one of the pathophysiological risk factors for PD, the exact molecular link between the circadian clock and PD remains largely unclear. We have recently demonstrated that $REV-ERB{\alpha}$, a circadian nuclear receptor, serves as a key molecular link between the circadian and DAergic systems. It competitively cooperates with NURR1, another nuclear receptor required for the optimal development and function of DA neurons, to control DAergic gene transcription. Considering our previous findings, we hypothesize that $REV-ERB{\alpha}$ may have a role in the onset and/or progression of PD. In the present study, we therefore aimed to elucidate whether genetic abrogation of $REV-ERB{\alpha}$ affects PD-related phenotypes in a mouse model of PD produced by a unilateral injection of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) into the dorsal striatum. $REV-ERB{\alpha}$ deficiency significantly exacerbated 6-OHDA-induced motor deficits as well as DAergic neuronal loss in the vertebral midbrain including the SN and the ventral tegmental area. The exacerbated DAergic degeneration likely involves neuroinflammation-mediated neurotoxicity. The $REV-erb{\alpha}$ knockout mice showed prolonged microglial activation in the SN along with the over-production of interleukin $1{\beta}$, a pro-inflammatory cytokine, in response to 6-OHDA. In conclusion, the present study demonstrates for the first time that genetic abrogation of $REV-ERB{\alpha}$ can increase vulnerability of DAergic neurons to neurotoxic insults, such as 6-OHDA, thereby implying that its normal function may be beneficial for maintaining DAergic neuron populations during PD progression.
