The Role of Corporate Governance and Financial Condition on Stock Returns in Indonesia

Harry S. INDIJANTO,Bambang PURWOKO,Tri WIDYASTUTI 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.4

This research aims to examine and assess how management methods, financial conditions, and corporate governance strategies affect stock returns. This study employs a quantitative approach with a population of 1968 firms with stock returns (return) and a sample of 225 companies with corporate governance practices in the manufacturing industry in Indonesia from 2013 to 2018. The findings of this study show that strategic management has a significant impact on stock return, financial condition, and corporate governance strategy. The findings of this study on debt strategy as a proxy for management strategy, debt default as a proxy for economic conditions, corporate governance strategy as a proxy for centralized ownership, and independent commissioners function as a mechanism of internal and external control in increasing stock return for investors all support increasing stock return for investors. The cost reduction strategy includes reducing operating costs unless the audit committee has not yet functioned as an internal control or requirement for a company to be listed with the Financial Services Authority on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

Genetic Analysis and QTL Mapping for Agronomic and Yield-Related Traits in Ciherang-Sub1 Rice Backcross Populations

        ( Estria F Pramudyawardani ),( Hajrial Aswidinnoor ),( Bambang S Purwoko ),( Willy B Suwarno ),( M R Islam ),( Holden Verdeprado ),( Bertrand Cy Collard ) 한국육종학회 2018 Plant Breeding and Biotechnology Vol.6 No.3

Higher productivity of new varieties is the most common target for breeders. The discovery of new quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for important traits is an effective method to support this goal. The variety Ciherang has been dominant in Indonesia for many decades. The objective of this study was to identify QTLs for agronomic and yield-related traits, especially those derived from elite variety Ciherang-Sub1. The SNP and SSR markers were used to construct a framework map for preliminary QTL analysis. In total, the 104 markers resulted in the identification of 17 QTLs from 149 backcross families. One QTL (qPH1.1) was identified in the same position across seasons. Six QTLs were confirmed by combined analysis, namely: qHd1c, qDTF3.1, qDTF11.1, qGW3.1, qGW11.1, and qY1.1. One QTL (qgy10.1) was identified from combined analysis, while 9 others were identified from one season trial, namely: qDTF1.1, qHD-6, qDTF11.2, qPH6.1, qUFG3.1, qUFG9.1, qGW2.1, qGW3.2, and qY4.1. The PVE were ranged from 4.1% to 59.5%. Five QTLs in this study were novel QTLs, namely: qDTF11.2, qUFG3.1, qUFG9.1, qGW11.1, and qY4.1. QTL alleles were detected from both parents. Interestingly, QTLs for yield were detected from the low yielding parent. These QTLs should be useful for molecular breeding in the future, since they represent elite genetic backgrounds. Importantly, the mapping populations were part of the breeding program and the best lines were advanced within the program. Furthermore, marker assisted selection (MAS) was used to make the mapping population, demonstrating an example of molecular genetics research fully integrated with actual breeding.

Screening of submergence tolerant rice under artificial condition based on multiple selection indices

Rina Hapsari Wening,Indrastuti Apri Rumanti,Bambang Sapta Purwoko,Willy Bayuardi Suwarno,Nurul Khumaida 한국육종학회 2019 Plant Breeding and Biotechnology Vol.7 No.4

Flooding often occurs during the vegetative stage in freshwater swamps and rainfed lowlands, and therefore submergencetolerant rice varieties are needed. This study was aimed at evaluating rice lines to submergence stress. The experiments wereconducted at ICRR experimental station in Sukamandi, Subang, West Java, each in different environmental conditions: (1) submergencecondition, which was conducted in a submergence pool and (2) optimal condition, which was conducted in the irrigationfield. Ninety-five lines and four check varieties, namely Inpari 30 Ciherang Sub1, IR42, Limboto, and IR20 were used. An augmenteddesign with five blocks was followed in each environment. Three selection methods were used: (1) selection based on survival rate andvigor, (2) selection based on productivity under submergence and sensitivity index on productivity character, (3) selection based on theweighted selection index using sensitivity index variables of morphological and agronomic characters. The clustergram analysis withheatmaps method was used to compile of three previous selection methods to facilitate scientist in clarifying tolerant and sensitive lines. There were eighteen lines selected as tolerant to submergence stress, i.e., line no. 9, 15, 34, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 53, 55, 56, 57, 59, 60, 61,62, 89, and 90. These lines are considered promising for breeding improved rice varieties tolerant to submergence.
