도시권의 측면에서 바라본 광장의 정치 = Analysis of Politics of Agora in the Right to the City

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

With study of the South Korean social movement to date has been pay little attention to the relationship between the social movement and spaciality, it is meaningful that politics of agora give rise to stir up the importance of space. However,emphasizing the space is not orient to the spatial fetishism that regards upholding the agora per se as the object of politics of agora. I thought it is likely that existing debate on politics of agora could be trapped spatial fetishism. Because of this, protesters can pour out meaninglessly their movement energy into the particular space like agora selected by ruling forces, while paradoxically the power of ruling forces can be stronger. In this article, I was informed by recent contribution to the Right to the City. Then I attempt to reveal the facts below. First, the space is important to develop social movement such as politics of agora. Second, when the object of politics of agora is confined to defend agora as a physical space, it could shrink the emancipating power of politics of agora. Alternatively, I suggest that the politics of agora and Right to the City should be considered in light of the multi-scalar approach to avoid spatial fetish trap.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

기존 사회운동 연구는 사회운동과 공간간의 관계에 대한 분석이 미약했던 상황에서 광장의 정치는 공간의 존재와 역할을 환기시켰다. 여기서 공간을 강조하는것은 광장을 지키는 것 자체가 목적이 되는 공간물신론을 지향하는 것은 아니다.
필자는 현재의 광장에 대한 정치 논의가 공간물신의 함정에 빠질 우려가 높다고본다. 공간물신의 함정에 빠진 광장의 정치는 광장의 정치에 내포된 해방적 힘을지배세력이 선택한 특정 공간에서 소모시키는 자위로 끝날 수 있다. 도시권 개념을 바탕으로 본 연구는 첫째, 광장의 정치를 통하여 사회운동에 있어서 공간의중요성을 밝히고, 둘째, 광장의 정치의 목적이 물리적 공간인 광장을 지키는 것으로 한정될 때 광장의 정치의 해방적 힘은 축소될 수 있음을 확인하며, 대안적으로 광장의 정치와 도시권의 다중 스케일적 접근을 제시한다.
