중앙아시아 고려인의 한국 이주와 정착 : 광주 ‘고려인마을’을 중심으로 = Migration and Settlement of ‘Koryein' in Central Asian Countries to Korea with particular reference to ‘Koryeinmaeul' in Gwangju metropolitan

This study aims at exploring the processes of the international migration and settlement ofKoryein(고려인), the Korean ethnic group in Central Asian countries to Korea with particularreference to 'Koryeinmaeul'(고려인마을) in Gwangju metropolitan. Faced with harsh conditions sincethe formation of independent nations, a great number of Koryein have desperately sought emigrationto other countries including Korea, seeking the prospects of economic security elsewhere.
In general, the international migration takes place with the close interaction between macropush-full factors and micro 'migrant network'. In the processes of international migration of Koryeinto Korea, while some push factors operated in their countries are harsh conditions like economichardship and ethno-religious nationalism, some full factors attracting Koryein to Korea are theshortage of labor and high income in the Korean production sectors and the persons of Korean originlike Koryein-friendly immigration policy such as 'visiting employment programme'.
Koryein social networks of family and friends already established in the Gwangju metropolitanplay a critical role for perpetuating the migration of Koryein to Korea. The formation of Koryeinmigrant network creates the social foundation of 'Koryeinmaeul' as an ethnic enclave inGwangsan-ku(광산구) in Gwangju metropolitan. By stimulating social connections, 'Koryeinmaeul'generates a pool of tangible and intangible resources that help to promote the social and economicdevelopment of Koryein. Given the rapid influx of Koryein into Korea, this research makescontribution to understanding current scenarios of the migration and settlement processes among the'Koryein' on the bases of field data collected from Gwangju 'Koryeinmaeul'.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 ‘고려인마을’로 알려진 광주광역시 광산구 일대에 형성된 고려인 집거지에 거주하는 일부 고려인을 대상으로 설문조사와 심층인터뷰 및 참여관찰을 통해 고려인의 한국 이주와 정착 과정을 규명하고 있다. 소련연방 해체 후 중앙아시아 국가, 특히 민족과 종교를 토대로 하는 민족주의의 발흥과 국가 경제악화에 직면한 우즈베키스탄 고려인은 인근 러시아외에도 멀리 한국으로 국제이주 하고 있다. 한국으로의 고려인 이주는 해당 국가의 정책적 압박과 악화된 경제여건이라는 배출요인과 한국의 재외동포에 대한 일부 우호적인 이민정책과같은 흡수요인 간의 상호작용의 산물이다.
이 연구는 이러한 거시적 구조와 연결하여 고려인 ‘이주자 네트워크’라는 미시적 차원의 분석을 통해, 고려인 개인과 가족의 이주와 정착 과정에서 이주자 네트워크가 중요한 역할을 하고 있음을 보여주고 있다. 이 연구는 또한 고려인 이주의 적절한 이해를 위해 거시적인 분석층위와 미시적인 이주자 네트워크를 접목시킨 총체적 분석이 필요함을 강조하고 있다. 특히고려인의 한국 이주와 정착과정에서 중요 역할을 하는 고려인 이주자 네트워크는 고려인을광산구 일부 지역으로 밀집시켜 ‘고려인마을’이라는 집거지 형성에 직접적으로 기여하고 있다.
그간 광주 고려인 사회의 형성과 유지를 지원하는 소수 한국인의 적극적인 역할에도 불구하고 고려인 이주민의 한국사회 정착을 위한 노력은 주목받을 만하다.
