대학교 웹사이트에서의 효과적인 정보전달을 위한 인터페이스 디자인 연구 : 동덕여자대학교 웹사이트를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

대학을 둘러싼 교육환경의 변화로 인하여 대학들도 기업이나 각종 사회단체들과 마찬가지로 매스미디어 채널을 통해 각 대학의 발전 가능성과 우수한 장점 등을 적극적으로 홍보하게 되었다. 특히 초고속 인터넷의 등장으로 현재 우리나라 대부분의 대학들은 웹사이트를 구축하여 적극 활용하고 있다. 이러한 배경에서 입시생 및 학부모의 대학교 웹사이트 이용률이 해마다 증가하고 있으며, 이들은 대학에게 있어 미래의 고객이 될 수 있는 주요한 홍보 타겟이 아닐 수 없다. 따라서 대학교 웹사이트는 이러한 이용자들이 필요로 하는 정보를 충족시킬 수 있어야 하며, 그러한 정보들을 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 인터페이스 디자인 또한 매우 중요하다고 할 수 있다.
이에 본 연구는 각각의 설문조사를 통하여 입시생 및 학부모가 필요로 하는 정보를 찾고, 인터페이스 디자인의 시각적 디자인 구성요소를 중심으로 동덕여자대학교 웹사이트를 분석하였다. 이에 따라 문제점에 대한 개선방안을 다음과 같이 제시하였다.
첫째, 텍스트는 기본적인 정보전달의 기호이다. 화면상의 텍스트는 정보를 올바르게 전달해야 하며, 읽기 쉬어야 하고, 인터페이스 안에서 구동되어야 한다. 따라서 동덕여자대학교 웹사이트의 각 페이지 서브메뉴는 가시성 및 가독성을 높일 수 있도록 글자크기를 조절하고 좀 더 선명한 색상 대비를 줄 필요가 있다. 둘째, 이미지는 가장 일반적인 시각적 표현 매체로 많은 정보를 내포하고 있는 시각언어라 할 수 있다. 이에 따라 동덕여자대학교 웹사이트는 이미지의 흑백톤 사용을 줄이고, 각 페이지별 주제에 따라 그 의미가 전달되는 다양한 이미지를 사용해야 할 것이다. 또한, 동덕여대만의 느낌을 잘 전달할 수 있는 사진 및 일러스트레이션의 사용이 필요하다고 생각한다. 셋째, 인터페이스에서 색체의 사용은 중요한 정보를 강조할 수 있으며, 화면의 구성을 분리하여 사용자의 이해도를 향상시킨다. 따라서 동덕여자대학교 웹사이트의 각 페이지 메인메뉴와 서브메뉴는 글자색과 바탕색의 선명한 대비가 더욱 필요하다고 생각한다. 넷째, 정보를 사용자에게 효과적으로 전달하기 위해서는 질서 있는 레이아웃이 필요하다. 인터페이스의 레이아웃은 일관성 있는 구성과 기능을 가져야 하며 심미적으로 이루어져야 한다. 동덕여자대학교 웹사이트는 일부 어수선한 사진 배치가 시각적으로 좋지 못한 인상을 주기 때문에 불필요한 사진요소는 줄이고 적절한 크기 및 배치 조절을 통해 전체적 화면의 레이아웃을 심미성 있게 만들어야 한다.
이처럼 조사와 분석을 통해 살펴본 바와 같이 이용자의 만족도를 높이기 위해서는 많은 부분의 개선을 필요로 한다. 하지만 웹 인터페이스 디자인, 그중에서도 시각적 디자인요소는 이용자들에게 정보를 전달함에 있어 가장 빠른 전달력을 가지고 있으며 가장 큰 영향을 준다는 것이 분명하다. 또한 과거의 단순한 텍스트 위주의 웹사이트가 불과 몇 년 만에 화려하고 다양한 디자인의 웹사이트로 변화하였다. 앞으로의 웹사이트는 더욱 디자인에 민감한 웹사이트로 발전해 나갈 것이라 가정하였을 때 시각적 요소를 고려한 웹 인터페이스 디자인은 그 중요성이 더욱 커질 것이라 생각된다. 따라서 대학교 웹사이트도 이용자들이 필요로 하는 정보제공과 그러한 정보를 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 시각적 인터페이스 디자인요소가 고려된다면 이용자들의 만족도를 보다 높일 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Following changes within the educational environment, universities are required to actively publicize their growth potentials and advantages through mass media channels, similar to the methods used by corporations and various social organizations. Particularly, with the introduction of high-speed internet, most universities within Korea are actively utilizing websites. Within such a background, the rate of use for university websites are increasing among new students and parents. At the same time, such visitors are a major publicity targets who may become potential future customers. Consequently, university websites must contain information which satisfies user needs. At the same time, interface design which effectively delivers such information is very important.
As a result, this study conducted a survey for new students and parents to find information most required and analyzed the website of Dongduk Womens University focusing on visual design elements of interface design. The results of the study are as follows.
First, text is the most fundamental symbol for information delivery. Text must properly delivery information on the screen and be displayed within the interface. Consequently, the sub menus of each website must adjust the font size and utilize clearer colors for added receptivity.
Second, as a most fundamental form of visual expression, images can be considered to be a type of visual language which includes much information. Accordingly, the Dongduk Womens University website must decrease use of black and white images, but rather use various images which delivers accurate information according to the topic of each page. In addition, this study concludes that photos and illustrations which aptly delivers the distinctive feeling of Dongduk Womens University must be used.
Third, use of colors within the interface can highlight important information while separating screen configuration can improve user understanding. Consequently, the main menus and sub-menus of each page within the Dongduk Womens University website requires more clear contrast between text colors and background colors.
Fourth, in order to effectively delivery information to users, an organized layout is necessary. Some of the photos layout within the website do not give a great visual impression. Consequently, this study concludes that unnecessary photos should be reduced and the overall layout should be improved by appropriately adjusting size and layout.
As shown through the survey and analysis of this study, many areas must be improved in order to raise user satisfaction. However, visual design elements are the fastest in delivering information to users and their significant effects are profoundly clear. In addition, the simple text-based websites of the past have been transformed into colorful and varied websites in just a matter of years. When considering that websites will continue to develop in terms of design, it is believe that web interface designs which consider visual elements will continue to become more important. Consequently, user satisfaction can be expected to increase if university websites provide information needed by users and consider visual interface design elements within website designs.
