It is most important to research the mobile device considered features of mobile devices in order to design the mobile interface appropriately. The goal of this research was to search for the efficient hierarchical data structure in the small screen. In experiment 1, the performances were compared among the different hierarchical data structures whether grouping clearness, depth level and set size affect the search times and errors. The main effects of grouping clearness, depth level and set size came out. And the interactions between grouping clearness and depth level, grouping clearness and set size, depth level and set size were significant. In experiment 2, the performances were compared among the different hierarchical data structures whether spatial cue, grouping clearness, and set size affect the search times and errors. Three kinds of spatial cues were presented. These were Changes of the saturation in the background color and added windows according to the depth level and the number informing depth level respectively. As a result of experiment 2, nevertheless search times were not different among the spatial cues, the smaller errors came out in the windows and number condition in comparison with the color condition. These results suggest that if grouping clearness is guaranteed, there is no disadvantage to the deep hierarchical structure in the small screen. And the spatial cues presented with windows or number are benefit to the search behaviors.
