디자인사 자료 수집을 위한 구술 연구의 방향 모색 = Oral Historical Research for Collecting Materials of the Korean Design Research

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국 디자인사를 연구하기 위한 기초 자료가 충분하지 않다는 문제점에서 출발하였고 이를 해결할 하나의 방법으로 디자인 구술 연구의 새로운 가능성을 모색하였다.
디자인 분야에서의 구술 연구는 아직 미약한 상황이기 때문에 디자인 구술 연구의 현황과 사례를 조사하는 것과 함께 인문·예술 분야의 구술 연구 사례를 조사하였고, 그중 디자인 분야의 구술 연구 방향을 제안하는 데 참조할만한 사례들의 특성을 종합하여 얻은 결과를 토대로 디자인 구술 연구의 방향을 제안하였다. 제안한 디자인 구술 연구의 세 가지 방향은 ‘일상적인 디자인 현장의 인물을 조명하는 구술 연구’, ‘문헌 기록이 적은 디자인계 현장을 기록하는 구술 연구’, ‘주제사를 통한 디자인의 다학제적 맥락을 탐구하는 구술 연구’이다.
앞서 제안한 디자인 구술 연구의 방향과 방법을 검토하고 구술 자료가 디자인 연구 자료로서 유용성을 지니는지 시험하기 위해 인하우스(in-house) 디자이너의 관점에서 본 ‘역량’의 의미를 주제로 파일럿 연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과를 한국디자인진흥원에서 실행한 ‘2016 산업디자인통계조사' 연구 결과와 비교 분석하여 기술하였다.   이 연구는 한국 디자인 연구에 있어 구술 연구의 여러 방향을 모색하고, 구술 연구 방법을 적용하여 디자인 구술 연구의 새로운 사례를 제시했다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다. 향후 디자인 분야에서의 구술 연구가 확장되어 그 결과물이 전문적이고 심도 있는 연구 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study began with realization of problems regarding shortage of baseline materials to study Korean design history. Accordingly, oral historical research of design has emerged as one of the effective solutions to the problems.
As oral historical research has not actively been conducted in the field of design, it was required to investigate cases of research in humanities and arts as well as the current situation and cases of research in the design field. In addition to the investigations, the directions of the oral historical research were suggested based on the results of synthesized analysis of the characteristics of the selected cases for reference. The directions of oral historical research of design are three counts as oral historical researches by ‘featuring figures from the design field’, ‘describing the settings that have not sufficiently recorded in the literature in the design field’ and ‘exploring the multidisciplinary contexts of design using thematic approaches.’
A pilot study has been performed based on the meaning of ‘capability’ from an in-house designer’s perspective in order to review the directions and methods of the oral historical researches of design as suggested and verify whether the materials would be useful as a method to conduct study on design. Comparing with the results of ‘2016 Korea Design statistical data’ implemented by Korea Institute of Design Promotion, the results of pilot study were analyzed and described.
This study has significances that the directions of oral historical research for Korean design study were sought for, and new cases of oral historical research were suggested with the existing methods of historical research. It is expected, in the future, that oral historical research would be extended widely into various fields of design, and the findings would be utilized as specialized and improved research materials.
