The importance of definitional aspects, which reflect understanding of environments surrounding nursing teachers and internal understanding of the specificity of teachers in consideration with their potential abilities and their job interest features, is being emphasized. This study, thus, examines whether aptitude and psychological well-being of nursing teachers influence their sense of efficacy. The purpose of this study is to provide programs that can be helpful for the growth and development of nursing teachers and to suggest the job directions by understanding aptitude traits of nursing teachers and by exploring the ways that can enhance the teachers' psychological well-being and the positive effect of their sense of efficacy.
For this purpose the study set the following research questions:
Research Question 1. How do the aptitude of nursing teachers and their psychological well-being influence on the teachers' sense of efficacy?
Research Question 2. Does the psychological well-being have a moderating effect in the relationship between the nursing teachers' aptitude and their sense of efficacy?
This study was conducted from September 12th 2012 to October 16th 2012. The study targeted 301 nursing teachers working in Seoul Metropolitan City and Gyeonggido areas, and collected data using a questionnaire about nursing teachers' aptitude, psychological well-being and sense of efficacy. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 for statistical processing of reliability analysis, frequency analysis, descriptive statistic analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and hierarchial regression analysis. In order to determine correlation among major research variables, the study drew product-moment correlation coefficient, and in order to identify influence of nursing teachers' aptitude on their psychological well-being, the study conducted multiple regression analysis. In order to examine moderating effect of psychological well-being in the relationship of nursing teachers' sense of efficacy, the study conducted hierarchial regression analysis. The findings obtained according to the research questions are as follows:
First, the study finds that aptitude and psychological well-being of nursing teachers have significant influence on the sense of efficacy of the teachers. It is also analyzed that the higher level of the nursing teachers' aptitude and the higher level of the psychological well-being lead to the higher level of sense of efficacy. This means that the aptitude and psychological well-being are identified as the factors bringing positive effect to the nursing teachers' sense of efficacy.
Second, psychological well-being appears to be a moderator variable mediating aptitude and sense of efficacy of nursing teachers in the relationship between aptitude and sense of efficacy. Therefore psychological well-being is found to have the moderating effect. In the relationship between nursing teachers' aptitude and their sense of efficacy, it is found that sub-factors of the psychological well-being have strong moderating effect. Among them, environment controling ability has the strongest effect, followed by autonomy, self-acceptance, personal growth, positive interpersonal relationship and goal of life.
These findings show that if nursing teachers carry out their job tasks fitting to their aptitude and if they are in the state of psychological well-being, the teachers' job satisfaction increases. As this condition can open the teachers' potential possibilities, the teachers' sense of efficacy can be placed in the optimum condition. Therefore, it means that along with the external conditions of nursing teachers, internal understanding of individual teachers should be considered and treated importantly.
