신유물론과 생태 영성을 통한 스페큘러티브 디자인 방법론의 재구성 = Reconstruction of Speculative Design Methodology through New Materialism and Ecological Spirituality

국문 초록 (Abstract)

스페큘러티브 디자인은 미래를 사변하고 사회적 담론을 촉진하는 디자인으로써 디자이너 듀오 던 앤 라비(Dunne & Raby)가 제안한 <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><PPPP> 다이어그램이 대표적 모델로 사용됐다. 하지만 이 모델은 물질성을 다루는 데 한계를 보이며, 인간중심 사고에서 벗어나지 못하는 문제를 지녔다. 따라서 본 연구는 <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><PPPP> 다이어그램을 연구 대상으로 삼아 신유물론과 생태 영성이라는 새로운 매개를 도입하여 방법론을 갱신했다. 방법론의 갱신 목적은 스페큘러티브 디자인의 <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><PPPP> 다이어그램을 물질성과 생태를 고려하는 모델로 만드는 데 있다. 이를 통해 인간과 비인간 행위자의 포괄적인 사변을 용인함과 동시에 지속가능성과 생태 균형을 추구하는 지침을 제공하고자 했다. 이로써 스페큘러티브 디자인이 현대 생태 문제와 기술 발전에 더욱 효과적으로 대응하는 이론 기반을 마련하는데 목표를 둔다. 연구는 문헌 조사와 사례 분석을 주요 방법으로 진행되었다. 먼저 스페큘러티브 디자인의 역사적 맥락을 20세기 모던 디자인과 포스트 모던 디자인으로 나누어 고찰했다. 또한 신유물론 담론 중 행위자-네트워크 이론(ANT)과 객체지향 존재론(OOO)을 분석하여 <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><PPPP> 다이어그램에 적용되는 이론적 토대를 마련했다. 이와 함께 영성의 개념과 생태 영성을 탐구한 내용을 이를 스페큘러티브 디자인에 접목하는 방안을 모색했다. 이러한 과정으로 <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><PPPP> 다이어그램을 단계적으로 갱신하는 과정을 기록했다. 본 연구는 최종적으로 물질성과 생태를 고려한 갱신된 <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><PPPP> 다이어그램 모델을 제안했다. 갱신된 모델은 ‘현재(Present)’를 ‘행위자(Actor)’로 대체하여 인간과 비인간의 생동성을 인정하고, 영성을 물질세계에 공존하는 행위자로 재해석하여 윤리적 지침을 제공한다. 영성은 구체적으로 ‘생태 영성’ 도입으로 모든 존재의 상호 연결성을 강조하고 지속가능성에 대한 인식을 강화했다. 연구는 스페큘러티브 디자인이 유효성을 상실해가고 실험적인 시도가 위축되는 상황을 성찰하며, 방법론 재구성을 바탕으로 책임감 있고 총체적인 미래 구상의 도구로 다룰 수 있는 이론적 기반을 제공하는 데 의의가 있다.

Speculative design promotes social dialogue and encourages the examination of possible futures. This research aims to refine the <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><PPPP> diagram by incorporating New Materialism and Ecological Spirituality, thereby updating it to better accommodate considerations of materiality and ecological dynamics. This revision seeks to establish guidelines that promote sustainability and ecological balance, recognizing both human and non-human entities. The ultimate goal is to provide speculative design with a robust theoretical framework capable of more effectively addressing the complexities of contemporary environmental challenges and technological developments.
Finally, the study presents a revised <!-- Not Allowed Tag Filtered --><PPPP> diagram that thoughtfully integrates materiality and ecology. This updated model redefines "present" as "agent" and interprets spirituality as a coexisting force in the material realm that provides ethical guidance. The introduction of 'ecological spirituality' emphasizes the interconnectedness of all beings and strengthens the commitment to sustainability. This revised framework not only supports speculative design in navigating diverse future scenarios, but also provides a structured approach to addressing current environmental and material challenges.
