This study is to understand child's music expression observed through integrative singing activity.
Participants for this study are composed by 25 of 5-year-old child of all-day class (12 of male, 13 of female) of H public kindergarten located in Gaya-eup, Haman-gun, Gyeongnam.
This study was conducted for total 18 weeks from April 1 until August 1 in 2008. The researcher observed and recorded in detail using teacher’s observation, video records of musical expression, observation records, photo and so on.
Data of this study was analyzed with field record, video record analysis and teacher’s record. And with transcribing collected data, I classified with similar things between words of child's musical express activity and then divided them with subject group. I used various methods, multi-observer-analysis and thick description to verify objectivity and propriety of this qualitative study.
The concrete results and discussion about aspect of child's musical expression through signing integration activity are as follows.
The first, the characteristics of infant’s singing when they sing joy for tunes with oral sound is that they express interest and curiosity and have an interest to sing with one tone by the tone on the beat or to hum with one tone by piano melody and score. And child found one tone from a tune by themselves, adapted to sing and sang interestedly. And found a tone from the lyrics and sang by beat and rhythm.
The second, it was observed that child sang the song taking turns during the singing activity. When child were experienced at singing, they sang the song taking turns, such like dialog. They sang the song with body expression and with role as lyric to sing as understanding the meaning of the lyric.
The third, from to diversify singing activity, child showed audiation singing, singing some part with silent. During the singing activity, child sang the song with humming naturally without lyric for some part. They sang the song without voice for one or two tune by piano with chracteristics of song and with feeling beat, rhythm and tune by body.
The fourth, with singing integration activity, child expressed their understanding about detail units of rhythm by body expression and playing rhythm instrument. As they joined singing integration activity, it was easy to see that they made rhythm using body and expressed with singing. With the flat of hands, head, knee and shoulders, they expressed interest body expression by beat and rhythm. And it was observed that they created new body rhythm by interaction with friends, and sang the song with the body rhythm in daily life.
The fifth, child used musical factor concretely to change music newly during the singing integration activity, and they could reconstruct the song to different mood. child could reconstruct the music as new mood music by changes of all of ,or some of main factors of familiar song like beat, rhythm, melody.
