This study is the research of regional art in the Korean contemporary art. The art world of Korea has established excessive concentration of the overalls concerned in arts in Seoul, and comparatively has maintained the distorted structure alienating arts of other local provinces.
One of the representative symptoms is the loss of Korean art identity, which is the result of unnationality coming from the Seoul's cosmopolitan traits.
Besides, the ineffectual concentrational structure has prevented the growth of the unique local modes of art which has maintained its own regional characteristics and historicality.
There arised, however, vital regional art movements reflecting the changing contemporary trends all over the nation in 1990s.
In this study, it is intended to generalize theoretically the flow of arts through past, present, and future, with the parallelism of the changing positions of regional arts, which is considered the significant trend in the 1990s' Korean world of arts.
First, the concept of regional art was studied and in addition the general conditions of regional art was reserached.
Second, among the whole provinces, by being illuminated the characteristics of arts in Kwang-ju, Tae-gu, and Pusan, it was proved that those regional art had existed from the past and it was clarified that regional art had been neglected with the mistaken views and distorted structures.
Finally, the current regional art activities of other peovinces was speculated briefly.
With all these, the dynamic contemporary situations of regional art was recognized and the bright side of them it was expected to be positive.
