유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 원가족 경험 및 결혼만족도가 양육행동에 미치는 영향

The main purpose of this study was to examine direct and indirect effects (through mother's marital satisfaction) of mother's family-of-origin experiences on parenting behaviors. A total of 266 mothers with preschool-aged children, living in Ulsan city, participated in this study. The data were collected through questionnaires, and analyzed using correlations and Structural Equation Modeling(SEM).
The main results of this study were as follows:
First, mothers' family-of-origin experiences had a direct effect on parenting behaviors. Mothers with positive family-of-origin experiences displayed more warmth/acceptance, less rejection/restriction and permissiveness/neglect toward their children.
Second, mother's family-of-origin experiences had an indirect effect on parenting behaviors through their perceptions of marital satisfaction. Mothers of young children who perceived higher levels of positive family-of-origin experiences showed higher levels of marital satisfaction, and mothers of young children who had higher levels of marital satisfaction reported positive parenting behaviors.
In conclusion, maternal family-of-origin experiences had a direct effect on mother's parenting behaviors and had an indirect effect on mother's parenting behaviors through marital satisfaction. Findings from this study suggest that both mother's family-of-origin and marital satisfaction need to be considered together to explain mother's parenting behaviors. In addition, these findings have implications for future research and practice by emphasizing the importance of mother's family-of-origin experiences and marital satisfaction.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 원가족 경험이 어머니의 양육행동에 미치는 직접적 영향과 어머니의 결혼만족도를 통해 양육행동에 미치는 간접적 영향을 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 울산광역시에 거주하는 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니 266명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다.
어머니의 원가족 경험은 Hovestadt, Anderson, Piercy, Cochran과 Fine(1985)이 개발한 원가족 경험 척도(Family of Origin Scale; FOS)를 최현미(1997)가 우리나라 상황에 맞게 번안․수정한 척도를 사용하였다. 어머니의 결혼만족도는 Roach, Frazier와 Bowden(1981)이 개발한 결혼만족도 척도(Marital Satisfaction Scale; MSS)를 허윤정(1997)이 우리나라 실정에 맞게 번안하여 간략하게 수정한 척도를 사용하였고, 어머니의 양육행동은 Schaefer(1965)의 어머니 양육행동 모형을 토대로 박영애(1995)가 번안․수정한 부모양육행동 척도를 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 19.0 프로그램을 이용하여 변인들 간의 상관계수를 산출하였고, 어머니의 원가족 경험과 결혼만족도가 어머니의 양육행동에 영향을 미치는 경로를 검정하기 위해 AMOS 18.0 프로그램을 사용하여 구조방정식 모형(Structural Equation Modeling; SEM)을 분석하였다.
본 연구의 연구문제에 따른 주요결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 어머니의 원가족 경험은 어머니의 양육행동에 직접적인 영향을 미쳐, 원가족 경험을 긍정적으로 지각할수록 온정적이고 수용적인 양육행동을 더 하고, 거부-제재적이거나 허용-방임적인 양육행동은 덜 하였다.
둘째, 어머니의 원가족 경험은 결혼만족도를 통해 어머니의 양육행동에 간접적으로 영향을 미쳐, 원가족 경험을 긍정적으로 인식할수록 현재의 결혼만족도가 높았으며, 어머니의 결혼만족도가 높을수록 긍정적인 양육행동을 하는 것으로 나타났다.
종합해 보면, 어머니의 원가족 경험은 어머니의 양육행동에 직․간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 어머니의 양육행동에 영향을 미치는 요인으로서 어머니의 원가족 경험과 결혼만족도를 동시에 고려하여 살펴봄으로써, 어머니의 원가족 경험과 결혼만족도가 어머니의 양육행동에 영향을 미치는 구조적 관계를 밝혔으며, 이러한 과정에서 두 요인이 어머니의 양육행동을 결정짓는데 있어서 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 발견하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 긍정적이고 바람직한 자녀 양육행동을 증진하기 위한 부모교육과 부부교육의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이며, 또한 이를 바탕으로 원가족과의 관계를 증진시키는 노력이 함께 이루어진다면 보다 교육의 효과가 클 것으로 기대된다.
