Speech ability in the present society is recognized as one of the major factors that a leader must possess. I believe that ordinarily, speech ability is accurately using pronunciation, phraseology, grammar and other related language expressions. However, in realistic communication, meanings are delivered mostly by non-verbal expressions. This is because through non-verbal expressions, the speaker’s emotions and behaviors are well exposed. Although it is so, inspections and adjustments regarding non-verbal expressions are not being met in educational locations. Therefore, this research strives to recognize the necessity in developing specific lesson measures regarding non-verbal expressions in educational locations. Furthermore, the research strives to investigate the measures and its effects where students can increase their speech abilities through inspections and adjustments by utilizing smart devices.
The structure of this thesis is as follows.
In the introduction of the first chapter, it deals with the objective and the necessity of self-monitoring and self-regulation methods in regards to non-verbal expression education, research content and structure, and the research’s limits.
In the theoretical background of chapter 2, the following factors were verified: the concept of metacognitive self-monitoring and self-regulation, the content and methods in self-monitoring and self-regulation in regards to speech, and previous researches in non-verbal expressions. In addition, the aspects of non-verbal expression education in the 7theducational process were verified.
Chapter 3 dealt with the research methods and the processes. Research problems, the schedule for research subjects, research procedures and contents, and analyzing tools required for the research were explained. Furthermore, the process where the research was conducted and the tool analysis were dealt with.
Chapter 4 dealt with the aspects of non-verbal expression in the research lesson and the analysis of affective variables followed by it. The first and second presentation results in regards to the presenters’ aspects of non-verbal expressions and affective variables were compared and analyzed. Lastly, the presentation transcripts were given as examples.
Chapter 5 dealt with the research results. The research results analyzed the results obtained from the prior surveys and mutual assessment papers conducted by learners, and self-inspection table and oral interviews. Then, the effects of non-verbal expressions and affective variables’ self-monitoring and self-regulation by utilizing smart devices were verified.
In the conclusion and proposal of chapter 6, the research was summed up, implications according to the research results were presented. Lastly, implications were given in regards to post researches.
