With the development of the aviation industry, airlines are making efforts in various ways to attract customers and strengthen competitiveness. Among these, the work of airline ground staff, which is central to airport service operations, plays a crucial role in enhancing an airline's competitiveness by improving the quality of service that meets customer expectations.
In the aviation service industry, where dependence on human resources is particularly high, the management of airline ground staff is a critical factor in improving service quality. Factors influencing service quality include service orientation, customer orientation, and job satisfaction, which have been identified in various prior studies. Additionally, by understanding the relationship between job satisfaction and job performance, this study aims to contribute to improving service quality through the efficient management of airline ground staff.
This study focuses on airline ground staff as its subject, with the goal of proposing strategies to improve the quality of airline services. To verify this, the study examines the structural relationships between service orientation, customer orientation, job satisfaction, and job performance, based on personality types, including the four temperaments derived from MBTI personality types. The ultimate aim is to provide efficient human resource management strategies for airlines.
Based on prior studies, an empirical analysis was conducted. A survey was administered to 250 airline ground staff working at Incheon International Airport, Gimpo International Airport, Gimhae International Airport, and Jeju International Airport. The survey was distributed via an online platform, and a snowball sampling method was used to collect 250 responses. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 statistical software, and each hypothesis was tested.
The results of the empirical analysis are as follows:
First, there were no significant differences between MBTI personality types and customer orientation among airline ground staff.
Second, there were no significant differences between MBTI personality types and service orientation among airline ground staff.
Third, the service orientation of airline ground staff had a positive impact on job satisfaction.
Fourth, the customer orientation of airline ground staff had a positive impact on job satisfaction.
Fifth, the job satisfaction of airline ground staff had a positive impact on job performance.
Through this empirical analysis, this study identified that MBTI personality types had no significant differences in relation to customer orientation and service orientation among airline ground staff. Additionally, the study confirmed that service orientation and customer orientation positively influenced job satisfaction, and job satisfaction positively influenced job performance, underscoring its significance.
However, the study has limitations, including a limited sample size and the inability to collect samples from airline ground staff working at all domestic airports, which makes it challenging to generalize the findings to the entire population.
Future studies should expand the sample to include airline ground staff from all domestic airports to ensure more accurate and generalizable research findings.
