      The purpose of this article is to study of the decadence aspect of Gi Hyeong-do's poetry. Existing discussions of his poetry has a limits to repeat the point of view of realism. But his poetry has some decadence aspect such as cynicalness, a unique way of existence of poetic narrator, death and using downward images.
      The negative images of Gi Hyeong-do's poetry are diagnostic features of the side effects of radical capitalism. These criticism features faces a matter squarely and inculpating. To reflect the advanced society and diagnose critical reality is in touch with decadence trend.
      And these aspects are intended to reveal presents as a new method for Gi Hyeong-do correspond to reality.
      Decadence is a french word for decline, decay and collapsing. However in the literary, this word is to find the basis of a new aesthetic in the decadent culture, not the development. As a new standard it is characterized such as addiction to pathological conditions, bizarre material, sensual or sexual obsession and aversion to reality. To promote collapsing former ages for development new ages decadence literature is identified positive reflection of its time.
      In Korea, decadence was imported around 1920s, it is still continuing aesthetics not the phenomenon of only the era. Decadence trend has also the meaning of intellectually passive resistance to overcome the contemporary not a just expression for anxiety and resignation.
      In Gi Hyeong-do's poetry, the poetic narrator is replaced and identified by the poetic object. The appearance of a cynical to objectify yourself seemingly appears to be a contradiction. But it is a way to make a new meaning system for balance of opposition
      The city is silence world even death can't live. Life of silent city give poet guarantee a stable, but he determines to leave again and again in order to deny. He keeps assuming aimed at unrealistically supposed point. Therefore, poetic narrator wanders drifting continuously.
      In Gi Hyeong-do's poetry, his father couldn't show take on head of household. The image of the father is listed not alive, though as alive. Thus the texts to deny the paternity are closely related to the experience of Gi Hyeong-do. After finding the parts that resemble the narrator and his father from him, and begins to look at self cynical as himself.
      Gi Hyeong-do's world is not the world of the Middle Ages feudal but, it is time for another class structure of capitalism appeared. He accused the new feudal society caused by industrialization without sound and scrambling. Due to the radical industrialization, he has exposed the lives inequality as the marginal and accused the duality of civilization. The city is full of violence by the dominated powerful spellbound crowd. Reality has already been encroaching on everyday and implicit violence, the narrator is just there at the sight of the crowd as cynical.
      In addition, the texts shows old aging is the hasten matters not resist. And despaired narrator falls internal death to deny life. However, without falling into emotional distress and sorrow, to say indifferently and led to philosophical of frontier that transcend rather. But he will walk on their own towards his death in rather contemplation's peaceful gaze. To him death is not negative, is that of presenting a method for relief from pain of life rather.
      Gi Hyeong-do is a poet who responds to situations as his own way and reflects on his texts. In his text, signs of downfall and word of alienation is frequently appeared which is hidden by growing and development. Because they showup to diagnose and reflect on the present society.
