대학 캠퍼스의 입지와 공간구성에 관한 풍수지리적 분석 : 영남대학교 캠퍼스를 중심으로 = Analysis of the Location and Composition of Space of University Campus in terms of Feng-shui : Focused on Yeungnam University Campus

Feng-shui is based on the orderly natural law that happens in earth and sky. It is also a science related to the earth, the ground of all the creatures living on the globe. Its purpose is right choice and management of residential space, the indispensable element for preservation of life and improvement of the quality of life. It is admittable that there is a critical viewpoint that Feng-shui is unscientifical. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that the Feng-shui is a wise philosophy of life of our ancestors and a traditional science systematized with an empirical theory.
In dictionary, the university is defined as 'an academic community that develops human intelligence based on the freedom of science and that takes the role of succeeding and developing the cultural heritage accumulated by humankind through creative activity of inquiring the truth, and at the same time a higher educational institution that cultivates intellectuals equipped with the quality of leadership'. In short, 'the university is a place where sciences are investigated and the results of sciences are educated'.
However, the environment the universities are in is becoming worse in and out of school. Universities will get in the crisis even the survival is not guaranteed if they insist on their proper function. This study analyzed the location and space of the campus of Yeungnam University using the empirical system of logics in Feng-shui. A precise analysis was also been carried out on the personnel elements like professors, staff and students and the campus, the space in which they have to spend most of their time for the education and research. Consideration was given to the device that makes the campus not insufficient for a space to cultivate the future men of ability as well as helps forming a pleasant and efficient environment.
Analysis of Yeungnam University in terms of Feng-shui showed that the Juryongmaek, that is one of Biseul Branches Jusan stretches from the BaekduDaegan and comes through Mt. Samseong and Mt. Baekja, is connected to the right backside of the main building of Yeungnam University at the end of the Juryongmaek. Centering around the Chenmaro, colleges of science and engineering are located to the left side fit for the spirit of challenging, strong and mannish Cheongyong and colleges of humanities and social sciences, to the left side fit for the spirit of quiet, relaxed and feminine Baekho. Then the Cheonma Arts Center is located in front, being agreed well with the concept of Sasinsa. Looking around the topography of nearby mountains and streams, the location of Gyeongsan campus is known to choose the rear-mountain-front-water and front-low-rear-high land, the land ideal and basic in Feng-shui, at Sanjincheo where the Naeryong ends. In case of Daemyeong-dong campus, the medical center and college of medicine are located at where Mt. Apsan and Mt. Bipa of Biseul Branches come out and form a peak after gradually rising up, and also at the place where 4 branches of E-W-S-N including Ipsu NaeryongMaek are stable.
The result of analysis suggests that Yeungnam University is in no way inferior to the site of academic research, making the use of the characteristics of the college that is growing as the best private school. It is a site very proper to the condition of house site that puts the vital power away in good order as it has a stable soil layer on low and wide ground, if some lacking part is supplemented in terms of Feng-shui.
The perfect propitious site, in Feng-shui, is not many and if any, it is hard to find. Therefore if a place equips somewhat adequacy and rationality as a location, it is enough to live while supplementing something lacking.
For Yeungnam University to grow and develop to become a global brand name college in world stage in the 21st century, the development of science and technology is of course important, but it is absolutely necessary to foster a high quality mental culture. It seems only natural that Feng-shui may play an important role here. In addition, only domestic Feng-shui should be expanded to Feng-shui for cosmopolitan and become the best practical science in the future, taking the role of supporter of human life and mind.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

풍수지리는 하늘과 땅에서 일어나는 질서정연한 자연법칙을 근본으로 삼고 있다. 또한 지구에서 생존하는 모든 생명의 터전인 대지와 관련된 학문이며, 그 목적은 생명의 보존과 삶의 질의 개선을 위하여 필수불가결한 요소인 주거공간의 올바른 선택과 관리에 있다고 볼 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 풍수가 비과학적이라는 비판적 시각이 엄연히 존재함을 인정하지만, 현대 풍수가 우리 조상들의 지혜로운 삶의 철학이자, 실증적인 이론으로 체계화된 전통과학임은 절대 부인할 수 없는 현실이다.
오늘날에 있어 대학이란 사전적 의미로는 ‘학문의 자유를 바탕으로 인간의 지성을 개발하고, 진리 탐구의 창조적 활동을 통하여 인류가 쌓은 높은 문화유산을 계승, 발전시키는 역할을 담당하는 학문 공동체이자, 지도자로서 자질을 갖춘 지성인을 양성하는 고등교육기관’이고, 한마디로 말하면 ‘대학은 학문을 하고, 학문의 결과를 교육하는 곳’이라고 할 수 있다.
그러나 대학이 처한 환경은 대내외적으로 갈수록 열악해지면서 대학이 본연의 기능만을 고집하다가는 발전은 고사하고 생존까지 위협받을 위기에 처해 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 풍수지리의 경험과학적 논리체계를 이용하여 영남대학교 캠퍼스의 입지와 공간분석을 해 봄으로써 대학의 주요 구성요소인 교수, 직원, 학생 등 인적요소와 더불어 그들이 교육과 연구를 위하여 대부분의 시간을 지내야 할 공간인 캠퍼스를 정밀 분석해 봄으로써 캠퍼스가 미래의 동량을 양성하는 공간으로 부족함이 없도록 할 뿐 아니라 쾌적하고 효율적인 환경 조성에 도움이 될 수 있는 방안에 관하여 고찰하였다.
영남대학교를 풍수지리적으로 분석하여 보면, 주산이 백두대간에서 뻗어 나온 비슬지맥의 한 지맥으로 삼성산과 백자산을 거쳐 온 주룡맥은 영남대학교 본관 바로 뒤로 이어져 주룡맥의 끝자락에 본부본관이 배치되고, 천마로를 중심으로 좌측에는 도전적이며 강건하고 남성적인 청룡의 기운에 맞게 이공계열 대학을, 우측에는 차분하며 느긋하고 여성적인 백호의 기운에 맞게 인문·사회계열 대학을 배치하였고, 그리고 앞쪽에 천마아트센터가 놓임으로써 사신사의 개념과 일치하도록 잘 배치되었다. 또한 경산 캠퍼스의 입지는 주변 산천의 지세를 살펴보아 내룡이 끝나는 산진처(山盡處)에, 풍수에서 이상적이고 기본적인 배산임수와 전저후고의 땅을 선택하였음을 알 수 있었다.
대명동 캠퍼스 역시 비슬지맥의 앞산과 비파산에서 내룡하여 오다가 서서히 기룡하여 봉우리를 형성한 곳에 의료원과 의과대학이 위치하고 있으며, 입수 내룡맥을 포함한 동서남북 4지맥이 모두 안정된 곳에 위치하고 있다.
이러한 분석의 결과 영남대학교는 사학의 최고봉으로 성장하고 있는 대학의 특성을 잘 살려서 학문연구의 터전으로 손색이 없으며 낮고 넓은 대지에 안정된 토층을 갖고 있기 때문에 풍수적으로 일부 부족한 부분을 비보하여 보완한다면 양기를 갈무리하는 양택 조건에 아주 합당한 곳이라 할 수 있다.
풍수에서 완벽한 명당은 많지 않고, 또 있다 해도 찾기가 어렵다. 그렇기 때문에 어느 정도 입지적인 타당성과 합리성을 갖춘 장소라면 부족한 점을 보완하면서 살아가면 충분할 것이다.
영남대학교가 21세기 세계무대에서 글로벌 명문대학으로 성장하고, 발전하기 위해서는 과학기술의 발전도 중요하지만 수준 높은 정신문화의 육성이 절대적으로 필요하며, 여기에 풍수지리학이 중요한 역할을 담당할 수 있을 것은 너무도 당연하다. 이와 더불어 우리만의 풍수지리에서 나아가 세계인의 풍수지리로 자리매김함으로써, 미래에 최고의 실학(實學)이 되어 인류의 생활과 정신의 지주역할이 가능하기를 기대해본다.
