This study aimed to figure out the effect of creative dance class on juvenile's psychological well-being.
The creative dance class was carried out for total 319 of second-year middle school students (169 students (male : 99, female : 70) of W-middle school in G-city, Jeollabukdo and 150 students (male : 71, female : 79) of E-middle school in I-city, Jeollabukdo). Then, we observed whether change of juvenile's psychological well-being according to participating in the class would be or not.
The creative dance class program that consists of 12-sessions of class used in this study referred to Teaching-Learning Plans <Dance> (2014) of KOREA ARTS & CULTURE EDUCATION SERVICE. The program was modified and complemented appropriately for middle school students, and it was done during 12 weeks (2016. 3. 2~ 5. 18). The contents of the creative dancing class is, letting students to research on the elements of moves, the way to express the moves and the forming principles of the moves. After, let them experience process of performing the creative dancing.
Then, we took a survey using a scale translated into korean version by Jeonghee Pack and Heysuk Sim (2007) from the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) developed by Ryff(1989). The scale used in this study in order to evaluate the juvenile's psychological well-being consists of total 51 questions, such as positive self-awareness (12 questions), relationships with family (12 questions), relationships with teachers (10 questions), relationships with friends (8 questions), self-assertiveness (5 questions) and self-regulated learning (4 questions). A results were analyzed by using IBM SPSS 23.0 statistical analysis program, then, conclusions were obtained as follows.
First, it indicated that the creative dance class program positively affects the change of the juvenile's psychological well-being. Meaningful differences were observed in posttest that was performed to students participated in the creative dance class program.
Second, differences in the psychological well-being and sub-factors observed from the results of the posttest showed the most correlative value of M=.26 in the item 'relationships with teachers', then it showed M=.25 in the item 'positive self-awareness' and M=.23 in the item 'psychological well-being' in order of correlation. The item 'self-assertiveness' showed the least correlative value of M=.11.
Third, differences on the change of psychological well-being according to sex were slightly higher in the female students than male students in overall, and meaningful differences were also observed in the 6-items of sub-factors.
It can be understood that there were positive changes on the sub-factors of psychological well-being such as positive self-awareness, relationships with family, relationships with teachers, relationships with friends, self-assertiveness and self-regulated learning. By this, 'Research on how middle school Creative Dance class effects on teenager’s psychological well-being’ has given a positive effect.
Therefore, It can be figured out that students experienced the positive changes on the psychological well-being by creating a motions and feeling the body during having the creative dance class program.
Consequently, It was verified that the creative dance as a form of physical activity sharing a self-expression has many positive effects on the juvenile's psychological well-being. So, activity related education like creative dancing activities, should seek pragmatic way for the education to be more energetic and active inside the school, for the teenagers.
