CAN(controller area network) is widely used as a network protocol for real-time distributed control systems. The identifier field(ID) is used not only to differentiate the messages but also to give different priorities to access the bus. This thesis presents an algorithm to dynamically adjust a part of ID in order to allocate the network resource resource to messages that experience larege transmission delay compared to their transmission period. In order to demonstrate th algorithm's feasibility, message transmission delays have been measured with and without the algorithm on an experimental network test bed.
