감정적 푼크툼 발생 소재의 회화 표현과 해석 : 연구자의 작품을 중심으로 = Expression and Interpretation in Paintings Generated by Emotional Punctum: In Researcher's Recent Works

국문 초록 (Abstract)

연구자는 과열화된 사회 속에서 현대인들의 불안하고 미묘한 감정들에 관해 주목하게 되면서 중의적 감정은 어떻게 생겨나는 것인지에 대한 의문을 가지고 이와 관련하여 감정적 푼크툼의 대상을 이미지화하게 되었다. 푼크툼은 사진 용어임에도 불구하고 회화로 확장될 수 있다고 해석되며, 본 논문은 푼크툼에 대한 개념 재규정을 바탕으로 한 표현과 해석을 연구의 목적으로 삼았다. 따라서 연구자는 본 연구의 이론적 배경으로서 기호학자 롤랑 바르트의 언급에서 푼크툼의 개념을 도출하였으며 반대적 개념으로 함께 거론되는 스투디움의 사전적 의미와 예술학적 의미를 비교하여 기술하였다. 연구자는 불확정한 감정의 동요와 영감을 주는 이미지를 ‘감정적 푼크툼’이라 칭하며 논제를 부각시켰다.
사진과 회화는 각기 다른 출현 조건으로부터 생성되나 외시적 재현을 근본 목적으로 두고 있기에 미술사 전반에서 비교되는 경우가 많은 바, 이에 푼크툼과 회화적 표현에 대한 유사점과 차이점을 논하였다. 사진작가의 함축적 재현과 회화작가의 의도가 반영된 작품에서 공통적으로 메시지가 존재하며 연구자는 이를 푼크툼과 관련하여 기술하였다. 더불어 푼크툼 발생 소재로서의 풍경과 인물에 대해 중의적 감정을 띤 지표적인 역할과 푼크툼의 연관성을 연구하였다. 또한 이러한 중의적 감정이 다양하게 해석되기 위해 작품의 제목 부여에 있어서도 다의적인 단어들을 조합하였다. 작품의 표현에 있어서 풍경 시리즈의 나열을 통해 가시적으로는 찰나의 장면을 재현한 것처럼 보이지만 찰나처럼 지나치는 소중한 일상의 시간을 속도감이 있는 풍경에 빗대어 표현하였다. 인물은 풍경 시리즈 보다 사실적으로 표현하며 감상자로 하여금 푼크툼의 환유적 확장을 경험하도록 유도하였다.
연구자는 초기에 낯섦을 발생시키는 푼크툼의 근원에 대해서 탐구하였고 이후 경험적 푼크툼에 견지하여 다양한 의미작용을 살펴보았다. 이에 본 연구는 작품을 통해 드러나는 다양한 감정적 표출을 고찰해봄으로써 이미지 제작과 푼크툼의 새로운 가능성을 모색하고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

A question of mixed emotions of which a researcher has focused on subtle feelings of anxiety in the present society overheated in many ways, became a key source to visualize a subject of emotional Punctum. The Punctum, originally photographic term, yet, has been used in a context of Fine Art Painting. This thesis showed pictorial expressions and interpretations based on the re-conceptualization of the Punctum. As a theoretical background for this study, the researcher mentioned Roland Barthes, a semiotician, in order to discuss the concept of the Punctum and compare the Punctum with the aesthetical meaning of the Studium which is discussed as the opposite. The researcher has called "Emotional Punctum" as the image giving uncertain emotional disturbance and inspirations.
Photographs and paintings were appeared in different conditions, however, those two subjects have been often discussed throughout art history with their innate nature of visible representation. Thus, the researcher explained similarities and differences of Punctum and pictorial expressions. In regarding of the Punctum, the researcher discovered a common message found in the implicit representation of photographic works and paintings. In addition, this research discussed the relationship between the Punctum and the role of mixed emotions which was visualized in landscapes and portraits as work materials generated by the Punctum. The combination of words was used in the title of work in the purpose of producing various interpretations of the mixed feelings in the painting. In the work expression, the repetition of series of landscapes seemed merely the representation of a moment, however, it implied the precious daily times through a sense of speed in the expression of the landscape. The portraits, depicted in a realistic way more than landscape paintings, brought viewers to experience the metonymic expansion of the Punctum.
This study begun with the exploration of the origin of the Punctum generating unfamiliarity, then observed interrelations in various meanings in the perspective of empirical Punctum. In conclusion, this thesis tried to suggest new possibilities of the Punctum and the presentation of image with considering various emotions that is expressed through painting works.
