회화에서 보여주는 상징적 이미지에 대한 연구 : 본인의 작품, 체스(chessboard, chessman)와 삐에로 형상으로 표현된 회화를 중심으로 = Study on symbolic images in paintings : focusing on the own paintings expressed with the images of chessboards and chessmen and clowns

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우주 만물을 차지하고 있는 존재자 중의 일부인 인간은 유한성과 정신성이라는 큰 특징을 지니고 있다. 이러한 특징을 지닌 인간은 우주 만물을 대상으로 하여 그것을 모방함으로써 본질에 다가가고자 하였으며 이를 통해 자신들의 초월성을 얻고자 하였다. 이러한 인간의 바램은 인류가 ‘예술’이라 불리는 특징적 문화 영역을 발전시키는 계기가 되었다. 때문에 예술에 있어 인간은 필수 불가결한 존재이며 인간에게 있어 예술 또한 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있는 것이다. 다시 말해 예술이란 인간의 삶이 투영된 정신의 작용이라 볼 수 있다.
이를 바탕으로 본인이 작품에서 보여 주고자 하는 세계는 곧 본인 자신과 인간에 대한 끊임없는 관심에서 비롯된 이야기다. 전시 부제 “Who am I?”가 보여 주듯이 본인의 작품세계는 자아를 비롯해 존재하는 이 세상에 대한 끊임없는 물음에 대한 시각적 드러냄이자 우주에 살고 있는 자신과 자신을 둘러싸고 있는 존재들에 관한 사유인 것이다. 이러한 사유를 통해 본성에 한 발짝 다가가고자 함에 그 의의가 있다고 하겠다.
본 논문은 2009년부터 2011년 현재까지 제작된 본인의 작품을 대상으로 하여 제작 배경 및 그 내용과 형식에 관해 연구한 것이다. 본인은 본 작품론을 통해 작품에 대한 기본 취지와 이론을 근거로 한 작품의 배경을 공고히 함으로써 본인의 작업에 대한 타당성을 확립하여 향후 작업이 보다 많은 관객으로 하여금 공감과 소통을 유도할 수 있는 작업으로 발전할 수 있는 계기를 마련함이 그 목적이라 하겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Men as a part of all existences in the universe have unique characteristics of having limits and mentality. Men with such characteristics tried to be closer to the intrinsic nature of universe by imitating all beings in the universe and therefore to gain transcendence. Such desire became the motive for development of one distinctive culture area, 'art'. Therefore, men are an fundamental quality in art, and vice versa. In other words, art can be defined as actions of mentality that reflects human life.
In such aspect, the world presented in my work is originated from continuous curiosity for me and mankind. As the subtitle of the exhibition, "Who am I?” suggests, my works visually answer to the continuous questions for my ego and the world. Furthermore, it expresses reasons for existence of me in the universe and other things that surrounds me. I meant to step closer to the intrinsic nature of universe through such reasoning and questioning.
This study was on backgrounds, implications and styles of my paintings from 2009 to 2011. By securing backgrounds of my work based on basic intentions and theories through this theory of work, I aimed to gain validity of my work, therefore my career can develop further to induce sympathy and communication of many viewers.
