정보화시대 여성을 위한 디지털 정보기기 디자인에 관한 연구 : 유니버설 디자인(Universal Design)을 적용한 정보기기 중심으로 = Study on design for information equipment for women in the information era : Information equipment design based on Universal Design

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리는 지금 인류문명의 대전환점으로 일컬어지는 21세기에 살고 있다. 오늘날 우리가 사는 시대는 세계화시대, 징보화시대, 탈산업화시대, 다원주의시대, 지적자본 우월주의 시대, 그리고 예술 문화 전성시대 등 다양한 명칭으로 불리워지고 있다. 산업사회와 비교되는 21세기는 성격을 가늠해 볼 수 있는 명칭의 다양성 외에도 사회변화의 속도와 변화에 따른 개인과 사회, 인류에 미치는 영향력은 상상을 초월할 만큼 크다. 이러한 변화는 생산양식과 사회관계의 변화에서 시작하여 일상생활과 가치관 전반에 걸쳐 영향을 주고, 변화에 적응하는 개인의 적응정도에 따라 새로운 격차를 만든다.
지난 19세기부터 시작된 통신과 정보기술의 급속한 발달은 20세기 말에 이르러 인터넷과 전자상거래의 출현 그리고 IT 산업의 비약적인 발전으로 사회·경제·문화 전반에 일대 혁명적 변화를 가져오면서 기존 산업시대는 디지털시대로 변화하기 시작하였다 이러한 디지털화로 인한 변화는 인류역사상 농업혁명과 산업혁명에 이은 제3의 혁명으로 불리울 만큼 그 변화의 폭과 속도가 엄청나다. 이런 상황에서 디지털화는 이제 선택의 문제가 아니리 생존의 문제(Digital or Die)로서 그 중요성이 부각되고 있다.
디지털은 과거의 산업 사회의 패러다임인 일방적E 커뮤니케이션을 쌍방향 커뮤니케이션의 방식으로 변화시켰으며, 개인용 컴퓨터의 보급은 컴퓨터를 이제 업무 뿐만 아니라 오락·통신· 쇼핑에 이르는 광범위한 영역에서 사용하도록 만들었다. 이는 컴퓨터의 사용이 소수 전문가들의 전유물이 아닌 보편적이고 일상적인 도구가 되어가고 있음을 의미한다. 즉, 발신자와 수신자를 매개로 한 전통적인 방식으로부터 1인 미디어의 시대로 진화되고 있는 것이다.
인류는 농업사회, 공업사회라는 패러다임을 경험하면서 새로운 문명을 탄생시켜 왔고, 최근에는 정보화 사회라는 또 다른 패러다임을 깨닫기 시작했다 급격한 정보통신 기술의 발달 덕분에 정보화 시대는 태동하자 마자 그 발전의 속도를 더욱 가속화하고 있다. 그로 인하여 사회전반의 모든 활동이 신속하게 변화해 가고, 일상생활에서의 모든 흐름이 빨라짐에 따라 현대인은 자연히 가속화된 시간 감각을 갖게 되었다.
현대사회를 일컬어 ‘정보화 사회’ 라고 한다. 이는 마치 산업사회에서 자본과 동력이 전략상 중요시 되고 자원으로 변모해 왔던 것처럼 후기 산업사회 즉 정보화 사회에서는 지식과 정보가 전략적으로 중요시 되고 한 사회의 자원으로 변화하고 있음을 말한다. 이렇게 정보의 중요성이 높아져 가고 있는 가운데 이러한 정보들을 수집·분석·처리·전송해야 하는 필요성도 높아지고 있다.
정보화란 정보를 생산, 관리, 전달. 활용하는 인간활동을 의미하며, 정보사회는 정보화가 사회 전체적으로 큰 비중을 차지하는 상태로서 정의된다. 정보 사회란 첨단 정보기술을 이용한 정보의 창조나 개발이 일반기계나 자연에너지를 이용한 물재(物財)나 서비스의 산출보다 부가가치나 인력분포의 면에서 보다 큰 비중을 차지함으로써 전체 사회가 정보가치의 창출에 주력하는 상태로서 규정된다.
정보 사회의 특징을 보면 첫째, 창의력과 감성적 능력이 힘을 발휘하는 사회이며, Hard Society에서 Soft Society로 성격이 바뀜에 따라 여성들이 능력을 발휘하기에 적합한 환경이다.
둘째, 쌍방향적 커뮤니케이션이 새로운 대화방식으로 등장함에 따라 정보사회는 수직적·직선적 관계에서 수평적 연결망적 특징을 갖는 사회가 된다. 하지만 이러한 특징을 갖는 정보사회의 미래는 낙관적인 전망만으로 이어지지 않는다.
정보사회는 새로운 생산 요소만 정보의 소유 및 활용 여부에 따른 정보격차(Digital Divide)를 야기한다. 산업사회에서 부의 불평등이 정보 불평등으로 이어진다면 이는 우리에게 정보 활용도의 제고를 통한 생활의 질 향상이라는 새로운 과제를 남긴다.
정보화 사회에서 디지털 정보의 활용은 경제적으로 부가가치를 생산할 뿐만 아니라, 개인 및 가족의 오락 그리고 여가생활, 의료 시스템, 문화생활 등 생활전반에 영항을 미치게 된다. 즉 정보에의 접근성이나 활용도가 떨어진다는 것은 개인 및 가족의 전반적인 생활의 질이 낮아짐을 의미한다.
또한 정보화 시대 가정의 기능이 생산적 기능에서 소비적 기능으로 이전되므로 이제는 정보자원을 중심으로 가징 내에서의 정보생산 활동이 활발해지고 있다. 가정체계의 생산적 역할이 약화되고 가족원들의 욕구충족을 위해 점점 더 시장의 재화와 서비스에 대한 의존성이 높아지면서 소비자로서의 가계의 역할이 강조되고 있다. 그러나 정보기술의 발전과 인터넷의 보급은 의사소통의 방식을 쌍방향의 네트워크형으로 전환시켰고 이는 정보사회에서의 가정체계를 더 이상 정보의 수용자로서 머물지 않고 능동적인 정보의 생산자로 기능 하도록 하였다.
이러한 변화 속에서 정보는 빠른 발전속도로 발전하고 있으며 정보를 검색·창출·활용할 수 있는 가정과 그렇지 못한 가정과의 괴리를 생성하게 되었고, 이것은 산업사회에서의 빈부격차 보다도 훨씬 심각한 문제로 대두될 수 있다. 즉 정보사용 능력이 없는 사람은 정보사회에서 낙오되어 새로운 소외계층으로 등장할 가능성이 높아지고 있다. 정보사회에서는 컴퓨터의 사용능력과 정보사용능력, 지식과 정보의 가공 및 창출능력이 생산활동의 원천이 되므로, 이러한 정보격차가 세대간에 일어날 경우에는 가족원간의 소외감이 야기되고 정보를 많이 가진 자와 적게 가진 자간의 차이로 인해 생활의 질 또한 달라질 것이다.
정보화시대 가정의 역할 변화로 인하여 과거의 주부 역할만을 가지고는 현대의 주부 역할을 수행하는데 큰 어려움이 있을 것이라고 본다. 이는 주부에게 예전과는 다른 능력을 요구하는 시대로 변화되었음을 의미한다. 단순히 어머니, 아내로써의 역할(Housewife)이 아닌 전문적으로 주부’ 의 역할을 수행하는 가정관리자(Homemaker)로서의 여성의 역할이 중요하게 지적되고 있다. 이를 위해서는 현대적인 지식과 경험을 필요로 한다. 남편과의 다양한 대화와 폭 넓은 사물에 대한 이해로 자녀를 양육하고 교육시키는 교육자로써의 주부, 그리고 풍요로운 문화생활과 풍족한 경제생활을 위한 주부의 가정경제 분담 역할은 전통적인 여성의 역할과는 그 차이가 있다. 가정을 돌보면서도 자신만의 독특한 지식과 기술로 주부의 전문화, 차별화 시킬 수 있도록 하는 역할이 요구되고 있다.
산업사회와는 달리 정보화 시대는 많은 양의 정보를 선별하여 활용할 수 있는 능력을 필요로 하고 있다. 이러한 정보의 습득과 활용은 기존의 학습 방법으로는 정보의 발전속도를 맞추기 불가능하며. 따리서 정보기기 활용의 필요성은 더욱 증대되고 있다. 이렇게 정보화 환경의 변화로 인하여 정보활용 능력의 부재는 새로운 장애로 확대 해석되어지고 있다. 이러한 장애의 극복을 위해 유니버설 디자인의 개념을 접목하여 기기에 누구나 손쉬운 접근과 활용을 이룰 수 있게하여 인간과 인간사이의 원활한 정보 공유로 발전하여 인간중심의 사회에 초석이 되었으면 한다.
본 연구는 이러한 변화에 대비한 문화교류 및 정보교환과 처리를 합리화 하기위한 정보화시대 여성을 위한 정보기기를 제안하고자 한다.
1장에서는 본 연구의 방향 설정을 위한 연구 배경과 목적을 제시하고 연구 범위 및 방법에 대해 서술하였다.
2장에서는 디지털 시대에 대한 핵심적인 개념 설명과 디지털 환경이 파급되어 발생할 현상들에 대해 서술하였다.
3장에서는 정보화 사회의 개념과 특징 등을 토대로 앞으로 전개될 정보화의 변화 양상과 그에 따른 부작용 등을 문헌과 자료를 중심으로 다루었다.
4장에서는 차후 제시될 디자인 컨셉 설정의 토대로서 3장에서 분석되어진 내용을 근거한 정보화 시대의 파급효과를 분석하고 새롭게 야기되는 가정의 정보화 도래와 이로 인한 여성 정보화의 현황과 필요성을 도출하였다.
5장에서는 앞서 분석되었던 내용과 유니버설 디자인의 분석적 결과를 접목하여 유니버설 디자인과 여성을 위한 제품디자인의 합목적성 및 유효 적절성의 당위성을 기술하였다.
6장 결론 부분으로 본 연구로 인하여 적용될 수 있는 여성을 위한 정보기기 디자인의 제시와 아울러 향후 전개되어질 제품의 방향을 제시하였다.
이와 같이 본 논문에서는 정보화 사회의 도래와 발전으로 인한 환경의 변화를 인식해 보고, 정보화의 진행으로 인한 가정의 변화모습을 통해 가정 내에서의 여성의 역할의 변화를 도출하여 정보의 중요성이 날로 더해가는 요즈음 여성의 정보화가 왜 필요한가를 중심으로 그에 따른 효율적 이용 방법과 대응을 고찰해 보고자 한다.

We are living in the 21s' century, which is a great turning point for the human race. The age, we are living in right now, is called in many different names, like the age of globalization, information, de-industrialization, pluralism, superiority of intellectual capital, and the age of prosperity for art and culture. In addition to the diverse names that tell us a lot about the 21St century, which is different from the industrial society, speed of social change is enormously great, and also the affect on individual, society, and mankind. These changes start from the production pattern and social relationship, and widely affect the everyday-life and one' s sense of value. It also forms a gap between the ones that have adapted the change and the ones that haven' t.
Due to the rapid development of communication and information technology that started in the 19th century, Internet and electronic commerce has arisen, and the information technology has grown remarkably. These evolutions brought revolutionary changes through out society, economy, and culture, which started to turn the industrial age into the digital age. The speed and the diversity of changes, which result from such digitalization, is so tremendous that it can be call the third revolution, following the agriculture revolution and the industrial revolution. Considering these circumstances, digitalization, nowadays, is not a matter of choice, but a matter of Digital or Death.
Digitalization has changed one-way communication, which is the paradigm of the industrial society, into a bilateral communication. And also the spreading of PCs (personal computers) has made computers into necessities that are, now. being used in various areas. In other words, the traditional way of communication. which has a sender and a receiver, is evolving into a personal-media era.
Mankind has brought forth new civilizations through agriculture and industrial society, and recently they have started to perceive a now paradigm called the information society. Due to a rapid growth of communication and information technology. the information society is greatly accelerating its speed of changes, following its birth. As a result, all the activities through out society are changing promptly. And these speeding-ups of all flows of everyday-life has given up-speeded sense of time to the modern people.
Modern society is called the 'information society'. Knowledge and information are becoming an important resource of the information society, like capital and power was considered important and has become the main resource for the industrial society. Thus, the importance of information is increasing, also the needs for gathering, analyzing, processing, and transferring these information are becoming higher.
Informationalize is production, management, transfer. and use of information, and information society is defined as a state where informationalize is spread through out the society. Information society is also defined as a state where the entire society concentrate on creating information values, for creating and developing information through high-information technology is considered more important in added value or distribution of manpower aspect compared to the production of services or goods using machines and energy.
If you look at the distinctive features of information society, first, it' s a society where creativity and sensitivity is considered important, and character of the society has changed from Hard to Soft, which is a adequate for women to show their ability. Second, the information society became a lateral and interconnecting society from a vertical and straight society, due to the appearance of bilateral communication.
But the future of information society with such distinctive features is not as bright as it seems. The information society causes Digital Divide, which is due to possession and application of information, which is a new production element. If inequality of wealth of industrial society continues on to inequality of information, we are confronted with increasing the quality of life through reconsidering the use of information.
The use of Digital information in information society not only produces economic added value, but also affect the everyday-life such as amusement of individual and family, leisure, medical facility, and culture.
The function of families of information era has changed from productive to consumption, and the production of information inside families, nowadays, is growing fast around information resources. The consuming role of families are becoming stronger due to the weakening of productive role of families. and the increasing dependence of services and goods of the market to satisfy the needs of family members. But the development of information technology and the spreading of internet have changed the way of communication to bilateral network, and this made it possible for families to not only receive but also produce information.
Among these changes information is changing rapidly, and the families that can search, create, and use the information are being separated from the one that can' t. And this can become much worse of a problem than the separation between the rich and the poor of the industrial society. In other words, the possibilities of the ones that don' t have the ability to use information are to fall behind in the information society and form a new type of alienated stratum is growing higher. In the information society the ability to use computers and information, along with creating and processing knowledge and information are the source of production, so if the separation of information appears between generations, sense of alienation will occur between family members, and the quality of life between the ones possessing more information and the ones that doesn' t will be different.
Due to the change of roles of families in the information age, housewives of the past will have many difficulties if they keep to their roles of the past. This means the society have changed where abilities that are different from the past are required for housewives. Simply not just a role as a housewife but also a role as a housemaker, who carries of the role of a housewife in a professional way, is becoming important. This requires modern knowledge and experience. A housewife who raises and teaches her child with overall understanding of things and various conversations with her husband, and a housewife who shares the family finance for an abundant life. are different from traditional housewives. The ability to specialize and differentiate the role of housewives with distinctive knowledge and technique while taking care of the family is being required.
Different from the industrial society. in the information society, the ability to select and use a lot of amount of information is required. It is impossible to keep up with such learning and using of information through existing learning method, so the necessity of information equipment is growing higher. Due to such change in the information environment, absence of ability to use information are being over looked as a new handicap. To over come these handicaps we have combined the concept of universal design, so anyone can easily access and use equipment. And we hope this will develop into smooth sharing of information between mankind, and become the foundation of a society where mankind is considered most important.
This study would like to propose a information equipment for women of the information society to rationalize the cultural and information exchange and process preparing such changes.
In the First Chapter, the background for setting the direction of this study and the object of the study are presented, and the range and method of the study are described.
In the Second Chapter. explanation of main concept about digital era and phenomena that might occur due to the spreading of digital environment are described.
In the Third Chapter, aspects of information change of the future and its side effects based on distinctive features and concepts of information society, following documents and data.
In the Forth Chapter, we analyzed the effecting of spreading of information era. which will be the base for setting the design concept that will be presented later, based on the 3^'d chapter.
and also deducted the present condition and necessity of informationalize of women due to the informationalize of families.
In the Fifth Chapter. through combining the analyzed contents of the ones before and the ones of the Universal design, we described the reason why the Universal design is appropriate for product design for women.
In the Sixth Chapter, designs of information equipment for women that can be applied through this study. are presented, and also the direction of designs of the future.
Thus, in this essay we would like to go over the change of environment due to the arrival and development of information society, and deduct the change of roles of women in a family through change of family due to progressing of informationalize. Finally, we would like to think about effective ways and correspondences of using the fact that the informationalize of women is important.
