Shimcheongjeon focuses on filial piety, the most important moral ideology in Joseon society, and it is a Korean literary biography that must be dealt with in literature classes because it has the element of fantasy, an important characteristic of classical novels. In addition, Shimcheongjeon is a Pansori-based novel based on Pansori, and it is meaningful that it can inherit the comic tradition if it is carried out through two-way communication. To present a new direction for classical literature classes, this paper devises and implements an educational theater class based on Zepeto which is a metaverse platform. Also, This paper focuses on Shimcheongjeon, the most famous Pansori novel, and h great educational values.
Chapter I presents the purpose, method, and object of the study, and reviews the preceding research, educational theater, and prior research related to Zepeto. The purpose of the study is to study and implement a teaching and learning Shimcheongjeon based on Zepeto to expand the scope of literary appreciation and cultivate the ability to use virtual reality technology. The first reason for selecting Simcheongjeon as a work to be implemented as a Zepeto play is that the world experienced by the characters is dualized into the heavenly world and the human world, so it can be implemented more diversely through the virtual reality platform. The second reason is to devise a teaching method that allows teenagers to reflect on the importance of filial piety, an important value that is gradually fading. In the process of learning and creatively recreating Shimcheongjeon, learners can realize what the difference will be between the meaning of the filial piety of the era in which Shimcheong lived and the meaning of today's filial piety.
Chapter II, the possibility of using Zepeto in educational theater and the necessity of Zepeto play in Shimcheongjeon education were reviewed. The educational theater is a method of applying and utilizing theater in the educational field as a medium of educational methods. Among the types of educational plays, creative dramas were borrowed to conduct drama creation and dramatization classes, and educational plays were conducted in the form of participatory plays that enable natural encounters between actors and audiences. Zepeto’s play can be seen as a play that allows a student to stand in the position of an independent creator beyond an active audience.
Chapter III presents how the Shimcheongjeon class using Zepeto-based educational theater was conducted. First, the perception of educational theater and Zepeto was investigated, and specific class contents such as unit guidance plan and subsequent guidance plan were presented. Zepeto’s plays are meaningful in that by trying various expressions in a three-dimensional virtual world, they can develop expressive power in the metaverse world, elicit the audience's activities, and effectively internalize the work.
Chapter IV, the plan of the Shimcheongjeon class using Zepeto-based educational theater, guidance plan by time, and educational significance were presented. First, a survey of students' perceptions related to educational theater and Zepeto was conducted to analyze the feasibility of theater classes using Zepeto. In addition, through this class, how to achieve the achievement standards of the 2015 revised Korean language curriculum 'Korean' subject was presented. Next, based on the unit guidance plan for the 1-10th session, the guidance plan for each activity, and the contents of the class were specifically explained. In the first session, the activities of "Understanding the characteristics of the play" and "Understanding and using Zepeto" were conducted to guide students to faithfully familiarize them with the teaching tools of theater and Zepeto. In the second session, through the activities of "Analyzing the person and background of Shimcheongjeon, "Realizing the person and background using Zepeto", Shimcheongjeon can be internalized in-depth and new teaching tools were familiar to students. In the 3rd and 4th sessions, activities such as "Creating plays using characters and background characteristics" and "Selecting the topic of discussion of Shimcheongjeon" were conducted as block time systems. At this time, students will be able to understand the work in-depth and develop collaboration skills among group members in the process of creating plays with others. It will also have the ability to select topics for discussion and critically analyze works. In the 5-6th session, activities such as "Reviewing and rewriting the created scripts by the group" and "role, sound, movement, movement, camera composition, and props" were also carried out in block time. By guiding students to freely present their opinions on the play and theater process, they can carefully organize the story and improve their understanding of the work. The 7-8th session was conducted in a block time system, and the main activities were 'Practice performance using Zepeto's characteristics' and 'checking and giving feedback in the training process'. The 9th-10th session is also a block time system, and activities such as “Performing and Discussing Zepeto Drama Shimcheongjeon and "Conducting peer evaluation and self-evaluation" were conducted.
The educational significance and improvement plan of Shimcheongjeon teaching conducted in this paper are as follows. First, it is possible to understand and understand the in-depth and critically by conducting educational plays and discussions using the virtual reality platform Zepeto, and also evaluating the results of its activities. To improve, if more time is given, the different versions of Shimcheongjeon can be implemented as a play, and if an appropriate communication environment and rules are supplemented, a more efficient Zepeto play can be realized.
