인형에 내재된 현대인의 욕망표현 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 인간의 형상과 유사한 인형(人形, Doll)에 현대인들의 욕망을 투영한 본인의 작품 <욕망>시리즈를 통하여 현대인들의 욕망에 대해 고찰하는 논문이다.
<욕망>시리즈는 Candy연작, Absorb연작, The eyes연작으로 구성되어 있다. 본인의 개인적인 결핍 요소들이 반영된 Candy연작의 초기 인형들은 인간 신체의 기능적 확장에 대한 욕망을 담고 있다. 욕망 작업을 이어 나가던 도중, 문득 깨닫게 된 것은 무언가에 대한 결핍을 느끼고, 사회에서 표준화된 기준을 쫓아가려는 욕망이 결국은 본인만의 것이 아닌 타인과 매개되어있다는 것이었다. 따라서 Candy연작의 후기 인형들과 기존 작업에 스트로형상을 결합시킨 Absorb연작에서는 본인의 개인적인 것뿐만 아니라 현대인들의 욕망 특히, 외모에 대한 모방적 욕망을 고찰해보는 작업으로 확장되었다. 본인은 대중매체를 통해 표준화된 미의 기준이 이러한 현대인의 모방적 욕망에 영향을 미친다고 보았다. 이어서 The eyes연작은 현대인들의 일상이 된 SNS뿐만 아니라 현실에서도 흔히 볼 수 있는, 현대인들의 소비를 통한 과시적 욕망이 내재되어있다. 본인은 현대인들이 이러한 과시 행위를 통해 자신을 남들과 차별화하여, 결국에는 타자의 인정을 추구하는 것이라 여겼다.
본격적인 작품분석에 앞서 Ⅱ장 1절에서는 <욕망>시리즈에 표현된 욕망을 세 가지로 나누어 이와 관련된 이론가들의 견해를 간략하게 검토하였다. 첫 번째, ‘인간은 주체에게 결핍되어있는 대상들을 욕망한다.’이에 대하여서는 욕망을 결핍으로 보았던 서양 철학자 플라톤과 자크 라캉 그리고 동양 철학자 순자의 개념을 기술하였다. 두 번째,‘대중매체의 이상화된 모델의 이미지 즉, 미의 기준은 사회에서 표준화되며, 그것을 현대인들이 선망하고 모방하려 한다.’에 대해서는 욕망을 모방으로 보는 논의로 자크 라캉의 이론과 르네 지라르 그리고 수잔 보르도의 주장 및 대중매체와 성형수술의 관계를 고찰해본 선행연구를 살펴보았다. 세 번째,‘소비사회에서 현대인들은 타인과 차별화를 두기 위해 소비를 하며, 그것을 보여주는 과시의 행위로써 타인에게 인정을 바란다.’이에 대하여서는 헤겔과 베블런의 과시적 소비와 인정에 대한 견해를 기술하였다.
2절에서는 <욕망>시리즈의 주요 소재로 삼은 인형이 인류 역사 속에서 어떻게 기록되고 있으며, 인형의 역할은 무엇이었는지, 그리고 이러한 인형이 미술에서는 어떻게 사용되었는지를 살펴봄으로써, 인간 존재와 인형이 어떤 개연성을 가지는지를 확인하였다.
이어 Ⅲ장에서는 앞서 검토한 세 가지 욕망이 <욕망>시리즈에 조형적으로 어떻게 시각화되었는지를 분석하고 해석하였다.
마지막 Ⅳ장에서는 본 논문의 전체적인 내용을 정리하고, 본인이 작품을 통해 연구했던 욕망은 결국 타인과 매개되어있음을 시사했다. 따라서 욕망이란 사회에서 홀로 살아갈 수 없는 존재인 인간이 가질 수밖에 없는 자연적인 것이나, 사회가 정하는 기준에 얽매이지 않고 주체로서의 개성을 발견하며 진정한 나의 의미에 대해 고민하는 과정이 필요하다는 결론을 도출시켰다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper deals with the desires of modern people through my artwork the <Desire> series that reflect desires of modern people to dolls similar of human figures.
The <Desire> series consists of Candy series, Absorb series, and The Eyes series. The early dolls of the Candy series, reflecting my personal absence factors, contains a desire for a functional extension of the human body. While continuing to my art work the <Desire> series, I suddenly realized that I felt a lack of something, and the desire to follow standardized criterion in society, desire was finally not only myself but also mediated with others. Therefore, in the Absorb series, which combines the late my artwork doll of candy series with the straw shape of the existing work, it was extended to work not only for my personal but also desire of modern people, especially the imitative desire for appearance. I think that the criteria of beauty standardized through the mass media influences the imitative desire of modern people. Next, the Eyes series is inherent in ostentatious desire through the consumption of modern people which is common in reality of modern people as well as SNS. I thought that modern people distinguish themselves from others through the exhibitionism
and eventually pursue the recognition of others.
Section 1, chapter Ⅱ, before to analysis of artwork, I briefly reviewed the theorist opinion is related desires divided into three that expressed in the <Desire> series. First, according to the “Human desire objects that are lacking in subject”, described concept of western philosopher Jacques Lacan and oriental philosopher Xunzi. Second, according to the “Model image of idealized though mass media that is, beauty criteria is scandalized in society and modern people tries to envy and imitate”, studied preceding research as a discussion of imitation as the desire about theory of Jacques Lacan, Rene Girard and Susan Bordo of opinion and the relationship between mass media and plastic surgery.
Third, about the “Modern people consume to distinguish from others, and want to get credit as to show exhibitionism”, described opinion about conspicuous consumption with credit of Hegel and Veblen.
In section 2, the doll which is main material of the <Desire> series, how is being recording in human history, what the rolls of dolls are, and which probability between existence of human and doll has by reviewing how
these dolls used in art.
In chapter Ⅲ, we analyzed and interpreted how the three desires which discussed above were visualized in the <Desire> series.
In the final chapter IV, I summarize the whole contents of this paper and suggested that the desire I studied through my artwork eventually became mediated with others. In conclusion, therefore, desire is instinctive of human being that can’t live alone in society, but they need to discover personality as a subject, not being bound by the standard set by society, and agonizing about true meaning of myself.
