The purpose of this study was to explore the current status of music education in kindergarten teacher training institutions in Jiangxi Province, China, and to provide basic materials for the establishment of a desirable music education environment and curriculum for prospective kindergarten teachers. To this end, the following research problems were set up.
1. What are the perceptions and satisfaction of prospective kindergarten teachers about the music education environment of kindergarten teacher training institutions?
2. How is the music teaching efficacy of a prospective kindergarten teacher attending a kindergarten teacher training institution?
3. What is the faculty's perception of music training courses in kindergarten teacher training institutions?
Based on these research problems, we investigated the music teaching environment in 14 kindergarten teacher-training colleges in Jiangxi Province, China, and conducted a questionnaire survey of 895 prospective kindergarten teachers on their perception of music teaching environment and their efficacy in music teaching. In addition, through interviews with eight professors related to music education, we investigated the awareness of music education courses in pre-kindergarten teacher training institutions. The collected data and data were analyzed the current status of music education for prospective kindergarten teachers through frequency, percentage and content analysis and proposed measures to improve the music education process. The main results derived from the study are as follows.
Firstly, based on the analysis of preliminary kindergarten teachers' awareness and satisfaction with the basic environment of early childhood music education in 14 universities in Jiangxi Province, it is found that the academic competence and academic level of professors teaching music courses are not high. In terms of the curriculum, the infant music curriculum was not enough, and in particular, private universities lacked various music activities such as music appreciation and creation. Music education at the university of environmental perception and satisfaction in terms of public university and private university music textbooks and learning materials, facilities and equipment, music faculty and stability at the university of California, Los Angeles, music practice, learning opportunities and practice time and space, college music professional literacy skills, faculty training method, and there was a significant difference in private universities, especially lacking appeared. In terms of the educational environment and class satisfaction of universities in Jiangxi Province, prospective kindergarten teachers attending public universities had relatively higher satisfaction with the music education environment and classes, while prospective kindergarten teachers attending private universities had lower satisfaction with the music education environment and classes. In particular, there were differences in the perception and satisfaction of the music education environment and faculty of prospective kindergarten teachers depending on the music certificate and the type of institution.
Second, as a result of investigating the music teaching efficacy of prospective kindergarten teachers, both the overall and individual music teaching efficacy and the expectation of music teaching results were medium or somewhat low, with differences depending on "whether to obtain a music certificate" and "institution type". In other words, both prospective kindergarten teachers who obtained music certificates during the teacher training process and prospective kindergarten teachers attending public universities showed high efficacy in music teaching.
Thirdly, through interviews with college music teachers, college preschool education department directors and university management leaders, it is found that the music education of pre-kindergarten teachers in Jiangxi Province needs to be improved in several aspects, such as the improvement of academic qualifications, the stability of teachers' careers, the supplement of music facilities and equipment, the specialization of music courses, and the strengthening of cooperative education.
This study analyzed the status quo and problems in the cultivation of music education in kindergarten teacher training institutions in Jiangxi Province, China, and put forward corresponding improvements. It is expected that this study will improve the quality of early childhood music education in jiangxi Province Kindergarten teacher-training College, promote the improvement of pre-kindergarten teachers' musical ability, and cultivate early childhood education talents of higher quality and qualities, thus contributing to the improvement of the quality of early childhood education in China.
