A Guiding in music listening is very important, for its meaning is so inclusive and essential that, in a sense, means music education itself.
So in guiding in listening to music, in order to improve their abilities in grasping and understanding various expressive form of music, the teacher should try to help them to develop the methods and attitudes for listening to music in independent and active way, not in passive and routine way.
The aim of this research is summerized as follows : to examine music education in the seventh curriculum of high school, and to investigate the necessity of music appreciation teaching by examining the definition of music, the history of music appreciation, and music textbooks.
To extend the basic understanding of music appreciation, I examine the three step types of Robert Weiss as systematic ways of music appreciation and investigate C. Richter's education and programmed learning method about music appreciation lesson.
