      ABSTRACT


      The Effects of Cooperation-centered Physical Activity Program on Young Children's Pro-social Behavior

      Opportunities and experiences of active physical activities for young children should be given during early childhood as having rapid physical development. This study aims to analyze the effects of Cooperation-centered physical activities in the kindergarten on young children's social ability and to determine whether small group physical activities could be employed as a teaching method in order to enhance young children's social ability. The research questions of this study are as follows ;
      Is there any effect of Cooperation-centered physical activity program on young children's pro-social behaviors?
      1. Is there any effect of Cooperation-centered physical activity program on young children's control of personal emotion?
      2. Is there any effect of Cooperation-centered physical activity program on young children's human relations?
      3. Is there any effect of Cooperation-centered physical activity program on young children's adaptation to the kindergarten?
      The experimental group is composed of 32 young children aged 5 in I kindergarten in Seoul. The control group consists of 32 young children aged 5 in the same kindergarten. The survey tools are the followed the test for pro-social behaviors based on 'the Skill Situation Measure' developed by McGinnis & Goldstein(1990) and adapted by Lee Won Young, Park Chan Ok & No Young Hee(1993).
      The study is carried out in the order of preliminary test, pre-test, experimentation, post-test. Pre-test covers both the control and experiment group. In the experimental stage, physical activities are employed 15 times with the experiment group for six weeks while outdoor plays are employed with the control group. The collected data are analyzed using SPSS to obtain the result of t-test.
      The result of this study is summarized as follows ;
      The score of pro-social behaviors for the experiment group is significantly higher than that of the control group(p<.05). In addition, the score of the sub-items in pro-social behaviors, such as control of personal emotion, human relations and adaptation to the kindergarten are distinctively higher than that of the control group(p<.05).
