These results of the study might be useful for vegetation succession , forest conservation, selection of plant species, prompting natural regeneration and ecological forest operation. The study site is the northen part of Kyungsangpook-Do.
The objectives of this study were carried out to classify forest communities by the methods of ZM schools, to analyze stand structure by species composition and age structure of major individuals
The resuits were summarized as follows
1. The forest vegetation in the study area was classified into 5 communities, 6 groups and total of 9 vegetation units.
Ⅰ. Pinus densiflora community
Ⅰ-A Quercus serrata group
Ⅰ-B Quercus variabilis group
Ⅰ-C Betula davurica group
Ⅰ-D Pinus densiflora typical group
Ⅱ. Quercus mongolica community
Ⅱ-A Betula schmidtii group
Ⅱ-B Quercus mongolica typical group
Ⅲ. Quercus variabilis community
Ⅳ. Larix leptolepis community
Ⅴ. Pinus koraiensis community
2. According to the result of importance value analysis, importance value of Pinus densiflora and Quercus mongolica highly in the tree layer, but importance value of Quercus variabilis and Quercus mongolica highly showed in the sub tree layer. shrub layer.
Based on the these results, the stands of Pinus densiflora were predicted to compete extremely with Quercus spp. for an occupation of the studied areas.
3. According to the results of diameter class of Pinus densiflora and Quercus mongolica stand , 3 patches(lower slope, middle slope, upper slope) were indicated. most of the Pinus densiflora stand areas were judged to succed to Quercus spp. stand except the ridge of edaphic climax forest.
Vegetation units such as Pinus densiflora stand of upper slope and Quercus mongolica stand of upper, lower slope showed reverse J-shaped type, which indicate these stands might be maintained continuously.
In case of Pinus densiflora stand of upper slope was located the steep slope and the bare rocks in the study sites. Therefore, the seedling and sapling of the Pinus densiflora occurred abundantly.
