This study aims to systematize he community classification and vegetation units through the phytosociological method of Carpinus turczaninowii forests distributed in the coastal areas and islands of Korea. The results for vegetation units were mainly derived using the phytosociological method using the basic concepts of the Zürich-Montpellier School (Z-M School).
Classified according to the Z-M method, the vegetation units of Carpinus turczaninowii forests in the coastal areas and islands of Korea were systematically classified into 1 alliances, 2 sub alliance, 7 associations and 5 subassociations.

Carpinus turczaninowii forests in Korea are generally distributed from the coast of Gyeonggi-do to the southern coast and island coastlines. It is located in dry areas such as rock on coastal mountain ridges, slopes with a high ratio of rock, and mountain peaks, and species that exist spatially and temporally according to the climatic zone in which they are distributed form each community, so the species composition is diverse.
Life form type of whole Korean Carpinus turczaninowii forest is ‘H–R5–D4–e’ type.
