This study was conducted to provide basic data for social oral health and to promote oral health education through researching oral health knowledge and behavior. 183 clients over 18 years old who visited a university hospital dental clinic from June 2004 to August were surveyed by questionnaire.
These followings are the result of this study.
1. 45.9 percent of the respondents visited dental clinic cause their oral pain.
They accepted oral health knowledge through the mass media and oral health knowledge shows that there is meaningful level of significance between age and educational level.
2. 56.3 percent of the respondents brush their teeth three times a day on the average. The more women takes education, the more often they brush their teeth compared to men.
3. The more they take professional preventive dental care procedure, the more they know about the oral health. It shows that there is meaningful level of significance(p<.001).
4. On the self oral health evaluation, people who think that they need dental caries have more dental caries than people who think they need not. People who have never taken the professional preventive dental care have more dental caries than people who have it shows that there is meaningful level of significance.
5. As the knowledge of dental health is higher, the numbers of the treatment necessary decays are lower and the demand of periodontal treatment are lower.
As a result, to improve the oral health, self management and periodic preventive treatment are necessary, to improve dental health, dental health education is very important so it should be strengthened.
