The demand for landscaping plants are diversified, due to changes in governmental policies concerning land development, and an assortment of gardening exposition held in each municipality, as a consequence of the emergence of landscape ecology. Despite the high potentiality and rising demand, its field remains constrained with a lack of collection of planting methods and a cultivated tree type.
This study aims to provide the basic data for solving this problem. The author has investigated the cultivation circumstances
of landscaping tree in three districts of the Jeonbuk region. The results obtained can be summarized as follows:
1. Landscaping tree cultivators were divided into two grops: full-time and part time farming. The latter produced 63.6% more than the former.
2. The highest cultivating area rate was 3,300~16,500㎡, and the cultivation period was 10 to 20 years.
3. The major cultivated species of trees were pine in the Jung-up & Gochang area, while Buan did not show distinct features of tree planting. Overall, the most popular landscaping trees are Pinus Densiflora, Zelkova serrata, Chionanthus retusa, Acer palmatum, etc.
4. For the past 10 years, the price fluctuations of the major species increased of that 1~3% per year. this was lower than what the real price index indicates.
This study was conducted with a focus on the Jeonbuk province. therefore, this inherently has regional limitations. It can be further complemented by a multifaceted and systematic research necessary and activating inter-communication among farmers are necessary.
