시즌리스 트렌드와 계절 기능 해체 패션디자인 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

패션 산업은 근대 패션 시스템의 형성과 함께 계절성을 중심으로 의복의 기능과 구조를 정형화해왔다. 그러나 최근 들어 기후 변화와 여러 환경적 요인 및 문화적 트렌드의 확산 속에서 ‘계절성’이라는 시간적 개념이 점차 희미해지고 있다. 패션은 점점 단순한 실용적 착용을 넘어, 의복에 부여된 목적과 기능을 전환하고 재해석하는 방향으로 전개되고 있다. 이러한 기능의 전환은 현대 패션에서 하나의 창작 전략으로 부상하였으며, 의복의 본래 목적성을 전복하려는 실험적 시도가 두드러진다. 이에 따라 특정 계절의 소재나 아이템을 반대 계절에 사용하는 반(反)계절적 표현은 해체주의 패션의 한 양상으로 이해될 수 있으며, 이는 기능 해체(Functional Deconstruction)의 특성을 반영한다. 결국 기능 해체는 의복의 1차적 목적 및 실용 기능을 전복하거나 변형함으로써 새로운 미적 가치와 디자인 가능성을 제시한다. 본 연구는 이러한 흐름 속에서 최근의 시즌리스(seasonless) 트렌드와 의복 기능이 계절성과 분리되는 디자인 현상을 토대로 ‘계절 기능 해체(Functional Deconstruction of Seasonality)’ 개념을 이론적으로 정립하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 기존 연구가 시즌리스를 주로 산업 구조나 소비 행태의 변화로 설명한 데 비해, 이를 의복의 기능—특히 계절성과 결합된 기능 전환—의 문제로 다룬 디자인 차원의 분석은 충분히 이루어지지 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 기능 해체 관련 선행연구를 바탕으로 시즌리스 트렌드와 계절 기능 해체의 상호 관계를 규명하고, 현대 패션 사례 분석을 통해 이러한 개념이 실제 디자인 현상으로 어떻게 나타나는지를 밝히고자 한다. 이를 통해 계절 기능 해체는 소재 해체(Material Deconstruction), 아이템 해체(Item Deconstruction), 스타일링 해체(Styling Deconstruction), 조합성과 모듈화(Modularity and Combinability)의 네 가지 범주로 유형화되었다. 각 유형은 2020년대 주요 컬렉션 분석을 통해 조형적·개념적 특성을 확인하였으며, 계절 기능 해체가 단순한 조형 실험이 아니라 기후 변화, 기술 환경, 소비 문화의 변화와 연동된 동시대적 디자인 경향임을 보여주었다. 본 연구의 방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 해체주의의 철학적 담론과 해체주의 패션의 전개 과정을 고찰하고, 기능 해체의 개념적 정의와 학술적 근거를 정립하였다. 둘째, 기후 변화와 코로나 팬데믹, 패션 유통 주기 단축 등 현대 패션 환경의 구조적 변화를 분석하여 시즌리스 트렌드와 계절 기능 해체의 관계를 고찰하였다. 셋째, 2020년대 이후 주요 런웨이 컬렉션 12개 브랜드를 선정하여 네 가지 유형별 계절 기능 해체의 구체적 양상을 사례 분석하였다. 넷째, 이론적 고찰과 사례 분석을 토대로 연구자의 창작 작품을 개발하여 계절 기능 해체의 실천적 적용 가능성을 탐구하였다. 본 연구는 다양한 패션이 존재하는 와중에 사회·문화적 변화를 반영한 기능 해체의 개념과 유형을 정리하고, 그중에서도 시즌리스 트렌드에 주목하여 계절 기능 해체를 중심으로 컬렉션 분석 및 창작 실험을 수행한다. 이를 통해 기능 해체가 단지 미학적 실험에 그치지 않고 현대 패션에서 하나의 유효한 창작 전략으로 기능할 수 있음을 논의하며, 기존 연구에서 상대적으로 주목받지 못했던 ‘계절 기능 해체’ 개념을 이론적으로 정립하고 그 논의의 확장을 시도하는 데 의의가 있다.

The fashion industry has historically standardized the structure and function of garments along seasonal lines since the formation of the modern fashion system. However, climate change, evolving environmental factors, and shifting cultural trends have blurred the concept of “seasonality.” Fashion has evolved beyond its purely utilitarian function to reinterpret and transform the roles and purposes traditionally assigned to garments. This functional shift has emerged as a creative strategy in contemporary fashion, leading to experimental attempts to subvert the original intent of clothing. In this context, counter-seasonal expressions—such as using materials or items associated with one season in another—can be seen as a form of deconstructivist fashion, reflecting the characteristics of functional deconstruction. Ultimately, functional deconstruction proposes new aesthetic values and design possibilities by overturning or transforming the primary utilitarian purposes of clothing. This study examines the relationship between the rise of the seasonless trend and the functional deconstruction in fashion. It seeks to establish a more specific concept of Functional Deconstruction of Seasonality, examining how the dismantling of traditional seasonal categories is linked to shifts in the fashion industry’s distribution structure and the diversification of consumer lifestyles. The seasonless trend is analyzed as a phenomenon driven by climate change, technological advancement and digitalization, the COVID-19 pandemic, and evolving consumer culture—factors that have disrupted function-oriented clothing norms. To systematically investigate how this functional deconstruction is manifested in contemporary fashion, this study establishes concrete typologies. As a result, seasonal functional deconstruction is classified into four categories: Material Deconstruction, Item Deconstruction, Styling Deconstruction, and Modularity and Combinability. The morphological and conceptual characteristics of each category are validated through case analyses of twelve runway collections from the 2020s that prominently feature seasonal functional deconstruction. The findings confirm that this phenomenon is not merely a formal or aesthetic experiment but a contemporary response to shifts in climate, technology, and culture. Accordingly, the study is structured as follows: First, it reviews philosophical discourses on deconstruction and analyzes the evolution of deconstructivist fashion. It classifies the main types of fashion deconstruction by structure, form, and function, establishing the conceptual foundation for functional deconstruction. Second, it examines structural transformations in the contemporary fashion environment—including climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and shortened distribution cycles—to investigate the relationship between the seasonless trend and seasonal functional deconstruction. Third, through case studies of twelve major fashion brands from the 2020s, the study derives and verifies typologies of seasonal functional deconstruction, focusing on the four categories mentioned above. Finally, based on theoretical investigation and case analyses, the study presents original self-produced garments to explore the creative potential of functional deconstruction in fashion design. This study synthesizes the concept and typologies of functional deconstruction in the context of socio-cultural change and conducts both analytical and creative explorations centered on seasonal functional deconstruction within the seasonless trend. Through this, it demonstrates how functional deconstruction can serve not only as an aesthetic experiment but also as a strategic design methodology. In particular, it advances the theoretical understanding and contemporary reinterpretation of the underexplored concept of seasonal functional deconstruction in fashion design.
