The development of computer communications and media presentation techniques has made it possible to provide the various multimedia application services to the users in networked environment. Multimedia applications must be able to interchange multimedia information, which include spatio~temporal synchronization and hyper link relations between them. and present them to the users in real time. For these purposes. a standardized coding method and an efficient presentation technique are required for interchange and presentation of multimedia information, respectively. In this thesis, we have adopted the MHEG standard as a specification of multimedia coding for interchange of multimedia and hypermedia information. Based on the MHEG standard, we have designed and implemented the authoring tool to generate MHEG information objects, and the presentation system to present the generated MHEG information objects to user. The authoring tool. called the MHEG information object generator, gets the author's input from the menu-driven user interface and converts them into transfer syntax. The presentation system has been implemented to present multimedia information objects to user in an interactive manner by using user-friendly GUI tools and various mono-media drivers.
We have composed several presentation scenarios to test the functionalities of the implemented MHEG information object generator and the presentation system. According to the presentation scenarios, we have authored MHEG information objects with the MHEG information object generator. Based on our test results, it is proved that the MHEG information objects generated by the MHEG information object generator are coded correctly according to the specification of the MHEG standard. and presented to the user according to the author’s intention.
