The purpose of this study is to explore the criteria for college selection for students applying for athletics-related entrance exams, and its significance is to analyze and understand the factors that influence college selection for the right career choice. This study collected open-ended questionnaires from 100 college entrance exam students registered at a physical education academy in the Gyeongnam region. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 people and the following conclusions were obtained through inductive category analysis.
First, the career exploration process of college entrance students was classified into 3 general areas, 6 detailed areas, and 16 raw data, and the factors determining preferred universities were classified into 3 general areas, 6 detailed areas, and 10 raw data. In addition, college entrance preparation behavior was classified into 12 raw data, 3 general areas and 6 detailed areas.
Second, the major selection factors for college entrance students' sports-related career exploration were categorized into the areas of sports experience, organizer recommendation, satisfaction with sports activities, and major goals. Sports experience and organizer recommendation were classified into intrinsic and extrinsic factors, and satisfaction with sports activities was classified into internal and external satisfaction factors. The areas of major goals were classified into career goals and academic goals.
Third, the career value factors that determine college entrance students' preference were classified into the areas of educational environment, social recognition, job values, and supervisor recommendation. The educational environment was classified into curriculum factors and environmental factors, and the social awareness was classified into school awareness and major awareness. Job values and supervisor recommendations were classified into active selection and passive selection.
Fourth, the entrance examination search process factors of students' college entrance exam preparation behavior were categorized into the areas of efforts to achieve the goal of entering physical education school, information collection of entering schools, and plans after entering college. Efforts to achieve the goal of entering a physical education college were classified into external efforts and self-effort, and information collection on entering schools was classified into surrounding experiences and data search. In addition, plans after entering college were categorized into professional knowledge development and college life.
