크라카우어 영화 이론에 대한 고찰

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 크라카우어의󰡔칼리가리에서 히틀러까지 From Caligari to Hitler와 군중의 무늬 The Mass Ornament와 또 다른 영화에 관한 에세이 집 영화의 이론 Theory of Film라는 세 가지 주요 에세이집 각권의 특징을 살펴봄으로써 그 동안 제대로 평가받지 못했다고 생각되는 크라카우어의 영화 이론을 총체적으로 재조명하며 고찰해 보고자 한다. 크라카우어가 활동하던 바이마르 공화국 시대에서 나치즘으로 치닫던 독일의 20년대와 IMF시대이후의 한국은 경제공황이라는 공통분모 속에서 자본주의 사회 속에서의 경제 불황이라는 요소이외에도 분명히 많은 공통점이 있다. 크라카우어는 1920년대에 만들어진 많은 독일 판타지와 호러 영화들을 정치적․경제적 · 사회문화적 혼란에 대한 공포와 그에 따른 바이마르 시대의 파시즘 경향에 대한 징후적인 표현으로 보았다.
본 논문은 크라카우어의 에세이집 칼리가리에서 히틀러까지 From Caligari to Hitler와 군중의 무늬 The Mass Ornament와 또 다른 영화에 관한 에세이 집 영화의 이론 Theory of Film를 통해 영화 속에서 자본주의 사회에서의 문제를 해석하려 한다. 칼리가리에서 히틀러까지 From Caligari to Hitler를 통해서는 20년대 영화를 통해 크라카우어가 분석한 영화의 심리학적 역사서술과 그것을 바탕으로 크라카우어의 역사철학을 고찰해보았다. 다음으로 두 번째로 펴낸 에세이집 군중의 무늬 The Mass Ornament을 통해서는 사회문화적 현상학을 기저에 두고 자본주의 현실을 비판했다. 크라카우어는 이 에세이에서 영화는 사회를 연구하는데 중요한 매체임을 주장 하면서 자본주의에 대한 대안으로서 메시아니즘을 제시했다. 마지막으로 또 하나의 영화에 대한 에세이 집 영화의 이론 Theory of Film에서 크라카우어는 본격적으로 영화라는 매체 전체를 분석하는데 영화 관객성과 영화의 매체적 성격, 그리고 리얼리즘론을 통한 영화의 기능을 살펴보았다. 크라카우어에게 영화는 영화 이미지가 현실의 묘사를 넘어 물리적 현실의 숨겨진 차원까지 기록하고 드러내는 이미지임을 강조함으로써 필연적으로 그 시대를 반영하며 자본주의에서 구원할 수 있는 이미지이다. 크라카우어는 이러한 작업들을 통해 이미지의 소외적 성격과 구원의 가능성을 통하여 영화 이미지가 현대 물질문명의 현실경험에서 중요한 교정기능 내지 치료적 기능을 수행하고 있다고 생각했다.
본 논문은 이러한 크라카우어의 에세이들을 고찰함으로써 지금 이 시대를 반영하는 영화의 사회적․정치적․문화적․역사적 의미에 대한 논점을 찾아내는데 도움을 주고, IMF이후의 한국영화에 대한 연구에 생산적인 시사점을 제공해 주려한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed at a analyzing film theory of kracauer through his three essay books about film,From Caligari to Hitler,The Mass Ornament andTheory of Film. Currently, Corean society after IMF and Weimar Republican Administration era that was abreast with the times of Nazi have commonness point that faces crisis and disorder due to a widespread economic slowdown, a financial panic in Capitalism system and unstable political conditions. Kracauer observed the signs of confusion of political, economical, and social culture and of Fascism of Weimar era according to its confusion at a large quantity of German fantastic and horror films.
On the bases of Kracauer's essay books about film, From Caligari to Hitler,The Mass Ornament and Theory of Film, this study intend to interpret the current problems of a capitalist society in film. The study examine
psychological history and historical philosophy through 1920th German films that had analyzed by Kracauer on From Caligari to Hitler. The next, through the second essay book, The Mass Ornament, the study commented on current of capitalism on the ground of social cultural phenomenology. Kracauer had emphasized that film is a important medium as study of society in the present age and asserted Messianic Zionism as an alternative plan against capitalism. 랙 the last time, through the another assay book on film, Theory of Film, on the whole the study considered properties of film that it has characters as a medium, properties of audience and functions of film in realism. At this essay book, Kracauer insisted on film rescue us against capital society because film describe and reveal and reflect those days. Through these works, Kracauer thought that a image of film practices reform function and cure at the realities of life of ability modern times
Through these Kracauer's essay books, The study intended to help that find social, political, cultural, historical means of film that reflect our lifetime and supply productive suggestion points about Corea film after IMF.
