학교 환경교육에 대한 경북 지역 초등 교사의 인식 = A Study on Elementary School Teachers' Awareness of Environmental Education in Gyeongsan Province

국문 초록 (Abstract)

환경교육은 교육 특성상 시기가 빠를수록 효과적이므로, 환경 및 생태계에 대한 기본 개념이 형성되기 시작하는 초등학교에서의 환경교육은 매우 중요하다. 담임교사에 의해 모든 교과가 운영되는 초등학교에서는 교사의 환경교육에 대한 생각이 학생의 학습과 행동에 큰 영향을 미친다. 그러므로 초등 교사들이 환경교육에 대해 어떠한 인식을 가지고 있는지에 대한 연구는 환경교육 활성화를 위한 가치 있는 일이다.
본 연구는 경북 지역의 초등 교사들을 대상으로 학교 환경교육에 관한 인식을 4가지 영역으로 구분하여 조사하였고, 빈도분석과 다중응답분석을 사용하여 결과를 분석하였다.
환경문제 및 환경교육에 대한 인식을 조사한 결과, 첫째 대부분의 초등 교사들은 환경교육과 체험학습의 중요성을 인식하고 있었으나, 실제는 적극적으로 환경교육을 실시하고 있지 않았다. 둘째, 초등 교사들은 환경교육에 대한 지식이 전반적으로 부족하였고, 가장 시급한 환경문제를 쓰레기 문제라고 인식하고 있었다. 그리고 교사들은 자신이 가르치는 학생들의 환경문제에 대한 관심은 ‘보통’ 이라고 생각하고 있었다.
환경교육 현황을 조사한 결과, 첫째 교사들은 초등학교 수업에서 ‘쓰레기 문제’를 가장 많이 다루고 있었으며, 수업방법은 지식에 비중을 둔 인지적 목표를 중요시하고 있었다. 그리고 교사들의 대부분은 환경교육을 관련 단원에서 부분적으로 언급하는 정도로 소극적인 환경교육을 실시하고 있었다. 둘째, 학생이 선호하는 교수·학습 방법과 교사가 활용하는 교수·학습 방법에는 차이가 있었다. 그리고 지역의 ‘생태공원 및 자연학습장 견학’과 ‘자연 관찰학습’ 같은 체험 교육을 효과적인 환경교육 프로그램이라고 인식하고 있었다. 또한 환경교육에서 간학문적 연계의 필요성을 인식하고 있었으며, 타 과목에 비해 체육과 미술 과목에서 환경과 연계한 수업을 할 수 있다고 생각하고 있었다. 셋째, 교사들은 교육청을 통해서 환경교육 자료를 주로 획득하고 있고, 환경 수업을 위한 환경교재 및 시설은 부족하다고 인식하고 있었다. 그리고 환경교육을 위해 가장 효과적인 자료로는 ‘영상자료’와 ‘현장학습’이라고 응답하였다.
환경교육의 문제점에 대한 인식을 조사한 결과, 교재와 참고자료가 부족하고 교사의 업무 부담이 많아서 환경교육을 실시하는데 문제점이 있다고 응답하였다. 또한 교사들은 초등 환경교육을 발전시키기 위해서는 학교 내에 자연 공간의 조성이 우선이라고 생각하고 있었다.
환경교육 홍보 및 연수에 대한 인식을 조사한 결과, 첫째 대부분의 교사들은 초등 환경교육에 부모의 참여가 필요하다고 생각하고 있었다. 부모와 함께 하는 환경 체험 프로그램이 초등 환경교육의 좋은 학습방법이 될 것이라고 응답하였다. 둘째, 환경교육에 관련된 연수를 받아본 교사들은 매우 적었으나, 추후 연수가 있다면 대부분의 교사들이 참여하겠다는 의지를 가지고 있었다.
본 연구를 통해서 경북 지역 초등 교사들의 환경과 학교 환경교육에 관한 인식을 알 수 있었으며, 연구 결과는 경북 지역 초등학교 교육에서 환경교육 활성화를 위한 기초 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The environmental education for students beginning to form the basic concept of the environment and general ecological system at elementary school is more effective by early education. It is valuable to study teachers' awareness of environmental education since, it can have a big effect on children's learning and behavior at elementary school where all subjects are managed by their homeroom teachers.
This study surveyed the awareness of environmental education among the elementary school teachers in Gyeongbuk area and analyzed the results by using Frequency Analysis and Multiple Response Analysis.
The research results on elementary school teachers' awareness of the environmental issues and education are as follows:
First, most teachers recognized the importance of environmental education and experience environmental education, nevertheless, they did not positively educate the students about the environmental issues.
Second, teachers ware short of the knowledge of environmental education, and thought that the urgent environmental problem is garbage, and the students' interest in environmental problem was ‘average'.
The results of the survey on elementary school teachers' awareness of the present condition of environmental education are as follows:
First, the most frequently used issue in class was ‘garbage problem', and they emphasized on cognitive aims that place a great deal of weight on knowledge. Moreover, most of them kept sitting by environmental education by partly mentioning it in the environmental-related lesson.
Second, there were differences between the teaching-learning methods students prefer and the ones teachers use.
They recognized that experience learning is effective method for environmental education such as visiting the area's ‘ecological parks and nature-learning grounds,' and ‘nature observation learning'. Moreover, teachers recognized that it is essential to link environmental education with other subjects academically, especially physical education and art.
Third, teachers usually had most of the environmental materials from the office of education, and thought the lack of teaching materials and facilities on environment education. They answered that the most effective materials for environment education were video materials and field trip.
Elementary teachers' awareness of the problems with environmental education is as follows:
They answered that they had problems with providing environmental education because they lacked teaching and reference materials, and were under much work pressure, and they thought that to develop environmental education, it was an important priority to make nature space.
Elementary teachers' awareness of environmental education PR and training program is as follows:
First, most of the teachers thought that it was necessary for parents to participate in environmental education program for elementary students, and that an environment experience program with parents would be a good method.
Second, Few of them have attended a training workshop for environmental education, and they answered that they will attend the workshop if there is a training workshop in the future.
This study discovered the elementary teachers' awareness of environment and environmental education in Gyeonbuk area and it will be able to be used for the basic materials to reinforce the environmental education in elementary school.
