    Micro shock tubes are now-a-days used for a variety of engineering applications in the field of aerospace, combustion technology and drug delivery systems. Flow characteristics of micro shock tube are different from that of well established conventional macro shock tube under the influence of very low Reynolds number and high Knudsen number formed due to smaller diameter.

    In the present study, The flow characteristics in micro shock tube are investigated experimentally. Studies are carried out using a stainless steel micro shock tube. Shock and expansion wave was measured using 8 pressure sensors. The initial pressure ratio was varied for different test cases. and the diameter of tube was changed from 3mm to 6mm. Different diaphragms were also used. The results obtained show that the shock strength in the tube is stronger for increased initial pressure ratio and diameter of the tube. For thinner diaphragm, strongest shock strength was observed. Shock attenuation was highly influenced by the diameter of the tube.
